Sunny slope came out with a controlling pace at the end of the first quarter they led 10-5 behind the steady play of Alan Abayev & Dane Maggi. At half time they were able to get the lead to 21-13. The second half the momentum shifted after a couple big possessions for Bowling & Nicolds of Gilbert. Additionally some calls went the Tigers way which set them up only down 35-29, knocking on the door. Bowling turned it on in the fourth quarter, the Tigers found themselves now down by only 3 points. Gilbert however wasn’t able to push any further and the Vikings on Sunnyslope advance to the title game with a 46-43 victory.
Sunnyslope
Dane Maggi 6’4 Guard 2016- Maggi finished with 15 points, was an absolute fearless player all night long. Hitting shot after shot and helping Slope make the right plays, time & time again. His effort on the glass grabbing 7 rebounds does not go unnoticed as well.
Kyle Fischer 6’0 Guard 2018- The sophomore came out firing going 4-7 from the field. Fischer was an instrumental piece in this semi-final win for the Vikings of Sunnyslope.
Gilbert
Jacob Nicolds 6’6 Forward 2016- Nicolds finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, & 4 assists. He played a complete game but wasn’t able to get the Tigers over the hump in a closely contested matchup. Nicolds will be a great player at the next level.
Chris Bowling 6’7 Forward 2016- Bowling finished with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists & 2 steals for the Tigers. He was an animal in the postseason leading Gilbert to this point. Bowling was a tough leader for the Tigers & he will be greatly missed next season.
