Continue ReadingKentuckian Ahmad Price will vault from a single D1 offer to a half dozen by summer’s end. A big-bodied combo guard, Price is applying sandpaper to the rough edges of his game in hopes of landing HM offers.
Representing the Class of 2018, Price will run with the Travelers 16u squad in April and beyond. His Samford offer will accumulate a crowd of Midwestern offers shortly.
Just last week Price visited Xavier and in addition to Louisville, four other high-majors have been in contact with Price’s family. Father Juan Price discussed Ahmad’s recent college visits and new recruiters involved with PrepHoops.com Friday evening.
“The most recent (interest) is Cincinnati,” said Juan Price. “We have heard from Kennesaw State. Of course, Samford. Samford offered.”
Samford offered Price, Anthony Wales, and J.J. Reed late 2015 summer when the trio visited. As you know Samford Head Coach Scott Padgett has strong connections in Kentucky, as a 2008 NCAA National Champion with the Wildcats.
“There is more,” said Price’s father Juan. “Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky.”
Both Wake Forest and Notre Dame have begun contact, but according to Mr. Price they are admittedly introductory in nature.
Ahmad Price Unofficial Visits
Louisville hosted Price and AAU-teammates in August. He also attended a couple of Louisville games this winter.
“And an EKU game too,” said Juan Price. “We went to Xavier against Providence.”
Xavier is entering a new level of recruiting clout, now that they are competing consistently against high-majors. When they were an Atlantic 10 team they occasionally classified as a mid-major.
No more.
With the Class of 2017 and 2018 the Musketeers Head Coach Chris Mack will be able to be more selective.
“It is a great atmosphere,” said Mr. Price. “It is perfect. Not too big. Not too small. One of the top programs in the country. Close to home now. He loved it. He loved the atmosphere.”
The Price family has no more visits scheduled. For the upcoming month the focus is a playoff push for Fern Creek High School.
Skill Work
During 2015, Price was excellent defensively. He also was an accomplished slasher, capable of finishing against contact.
This high school season Price earned All-Region already and the Fern Creek Tigers captured a District Title thanks to Price, Daiquan Jones, and Tony Washington. Friday night the Tigers fractured the Bullitt East District Title six year title-winning streak at six years.
“His ball handling has gotten a lot better,” said Juan Price. “He has been playing a lot more at the one. A lot of coaches wanted to see him more at the one.”
Standing 6-foot-3, Price will have the option of playing on or off the ball in college. Recruiters are interested if he can handle the ball pressure implicit at the lead guard.
“He is improving at the one,” said Mr. Price. “Still has a couple more years.”
