The East side of the state is down this year compared to years past, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have good teams. Several East side teams have a chance to make a deep run in the State Tournament.
Norman North Regional
Norman North vs Ponca City
Booker T. Washington vs Muskogee
The Norman North Regional will be interesting to see how the chemistry of the Timberwolves is effected with Lindy Waters III and Cameron Martin coming into the lineup. Norman North is without a doubt the most talented team in the state. Expect the Timberwolves to have no problem with winning their regional. The game that will be interesting is to see who advances Muskogee or Booker T. Washington? Muskogee is a team that has been close all year long in many games. This might be the game they pull off.
Regional Prediction: Norman North
Putnam City North Regional
Putnam City North vs Bartlesville
Sand Springs vs Broken Arrow
The Putnam City North Regional could be the Regional on the East side that features an upset. Sand Springs has had an up and down year, but if they are playing together they will give North a tough game. Putnam City North has been led by Micah Speight throughout the season. Speight has been tremendous, but can the Panthers get over the hump? This Regional depends on what Sand Springs team shows up?
Regional Prediction: Putnam City North
Owasso Regional
Owasso vs Enid
Sapulpa vs Bixby
This Regional will be the best on the East side of the bracket in Class 6A. Owasso will advance past Enid, but its the Regional Championship game where it gets interesting. First off, who wins Bixby or Sapulpa? That game will go down to the wire. Both teams playing well throughout the season. I see Sapulpa advancing to face Owasso in the Regional Championship. Sapulpa and Owasso split there season series. Alex Ogunseye has been huge for Sapulpa in the paint and has received some help from his guards. If this game was at Sapulpa I would pick the Cheiftons, but this game is at the Oracle. Kinzer Lambert will have a monster weekend and continue to put people on notice of his talents that have flown under the radar.
Regional Prediction: Owasso
Union Regional
Union vs Stillwater
Edmond Santa Fe vs Jenks
This is a Regional that could go how you think it would or could get chaotic. Union entered the favorite and will glide into the Regional Championship Game. Edmond Santa Fe is the favorite to beat Jenks, but expect the Trojans to put up a tough fight. TJ Washington and Terrell Marshall are a tough duo to stop at Jenks. Edmond Santa Fe is a very young team, but they do have two seniors who have played terrific this year in Tyler Williams and Conner Johnson. I think Santa Fe advances in a close one. The Championship game could be a possible upset game with Union not having Ethan Chargois for the Playoffs. However, Union is still our pick to win the Regional.
Regional Prediction: Union
The West side of the State is stacked in Class 6A. They got a little help with three teams from the West in the top ten heading East. With that said the road to state won’t be easy.
Edmond North Regional
Edmond North vs Moore
Putnam City vs Yukon
Edmond North should have zero trouble with both of their games in their Regional. The Huskies led by Tre Evans and Marques Wilson have been unstoppable as they enter the playoffs 23-0. The game between Putnam City and Yukon could go either way. I see Putnam City advancing with a close game win behind Braden Hudson and Graycson Wright.
Regional Prediction: Edmond North
Putnam City West Regional
Putnam City West vs Capitol Hill
Edmond Memorial vs Choctaw
This Regional has the best chance on the West side of the state to have an upset. Edmond Memorial and Putnam City West should both take care of business and meet in the Regional Championship. Edmond Memorial has the best player in the state on their roster in Kristian Doolittle. Putnam City West has been great behind the play of Marquis Johnson at the Point. The Patriots have played pretty well throughout the year, but did slip up recently against Putnam City. If Doolittle plays to the best of his abilities as he has for most of the year Edmond Memorial will knock off Putnam City West. This Regional is my upset pick out of the eight Regionals. Mainly because I think Doolittle will be too much for Putnam City West. Expect this one to be a close one as Putnam City West is a very good team.
Regional Prediction: Edmond Memorial
Mustang Regional
Mustang vs Norman
Westmoore vs Lawton
The Mustang Regional is an easy one for me to pick. Simply, Mustang will roll to victory in the first round and win a tough game against Westmoore. The Jags have played well for most of the season and have a chance to pull off an upset in the playoffs, but not against Mustang. The Broncos behind the best duo in the state Jakolby Long and Curtis Haywood II win their Regional.
Regional Prediction: Mustang
Midwest City Regional
Midwest City vs US Grant
Deer Creek vs Southmoore
The Bombers took it on the chin last year losing to Union at home in the Regional Championship game. Midwest City has learned from last season and will roll at home to a Regional Championship. Keyshawn Embery is a special talent at the Point with offer from multiple Division I programs. Deer Creek should advance past Southmoore with Elyjah Clark dominating on the hardwood this season. Clark could give Midwest City trouble Saturday night, but Clark just doesn’t have enough help to handle the Bombers.
Regional Prediction: Midwest City
