Seven players in the top ten have already signed with Division I programs. Each player in the top ten has a great chance to end up at the Division I level. Below is analysis on each player.
1. Kristian Doolittle Edmond Memorial Forward (Signed to Oklahoma)
Doolittle remains atop the list in the 2016 Class with his great size, athleticism, and ability to take over games. He stands at 6’7″ and has continued to improve his guard skills. This season Doolittle has done everything he can to lead Memorial to victories despite not having much around him. Doolittle has a chance to be a special prospect as a stretch 4 or transition to the 3. The biggest hurdle standing in his way is completing the full transition to the 3 at some point in his college career. He is ranked 66th overall nationally by ESPN.
2. Lindy Waters III Norman North Shooting Guard Signed to Oklahoma State
It was close between Waters and Jakolby Long for the second spot, but ultimately Waters ability to score the basketball at efficiently and at a high level put him over Long. Waters is a knock down shooter from the outside. He has sneaky athleticism with the ability to get to the rim and finish through contact. Rebounding sometimes goes overlooked, but for his position Waters rebounds very well. Defense is an area for Waters to improve upon and with his length he could turn into a very good defender. Waters will have the chance to produce for Oklahoma State off the bench as a freshmen. He is ranked 100th overall nationally by Scout.
3. Jakolby Long Mustang Shooting Guard Signed to Iowa State
Long is a lockdown defender on the wing with great athleticism and strength. The physical build of Long is college ready. He is a high volume shooter that excels inside the three-point line. At Iowa State Long will need to improve his outside jumper. The athleticism Long has allows him to finish strong around the rim and keep opponents in front of him on defense. If Long can improve his shooting percentage lookout because he is the best defender in the 2016 Oklahoma Class hands down. He is ranked 100th overall nationally by ESPN.
4. Dashawn Mcdowell Southeast Point Guard Signed to SMU
McDowell is every bit of 6’5″ at the Point. He is a freak athlete that makes plays leaving you in awe. At SMU Mcdowell will need to work on his outside shot and making better decisions with the basketball at times. He is a scorer with a nice pull-up jumper from mid-range. The talent level of Mcdowell is through the roof! Mcdowell has a chance to be the player we look back on in this class and say he was the steal in the 2016 Oklahoma Class. The length of Mcdowell gives opponents trouble. If you are looking for highlight plays Mcdowell can certainly deliver.
5. Tre Evans Edmond North Point Guard Signed to Old Dominion
Evans has possibly had the best season of any player on this list. He has earned his top five spot with tremendous play at the Point. In previous years, Evans played more at the 2 and was used as a spot up shooter. However, that isn’t Evans position, he is best with the ball in his hands making plays. Evans has improved his shooting percentage a lot this year. He will need to continue to improve his jumper for the next level. In big games this year Evans has shined very bright answering the call with great performances. Evans is strong, has a high basketball IQ, and is a flat playmaker with the rock in his hands. He has proven a lot of people wrong this year playing the best basketball of his high school career. Big things are ahead for Evans.
6. Curtis Haywood II Mustang Shooting Guard
Haywood is the top unsigned prospect in Oklahoma. He has had a great senior season at Mustang facing national competition. Haywood has improved his outside shooting immensely. He is really long on the wing, good athlete, and is a winner. What ever is asked of Haywood to help his team win he is going to do. Haywood has big time upside at the next level. If he can continue to improve his overall game lookout! Western Kentucky has offered Haywood and several other Division I schools are showing great interest.
7. Marcus Dickinson Norman North Point Guard
Dickinson is possibly the most overshadowed player in Oklahoma playing alongside Trae Young. He doesn’t get enough credit at times for his talents on the court. Dickinson is a good athlete with a physical build at the Point. He can run the show at the Point seeing the entire floor. He is not the best shooter, but has games where he is unstoppable. Being more of a consistent shooter is something for Dickinson to improve upon at the next level. He is receiving some Division I interest, but not as much as some would think. Dickinson could be a great grab for MM or LM in the April signing period. Prep school or JUCO are both possibilities.
8. Kellen Manek Harrah Power Forward Signed to Oral Roberts
Manek is the definition of hard work! He isn’t the most athletically gifted on this list, but will outwork anyone to improve his game. Manek has a nice low-post back to the basket game on offense. Defensively he uses his size at 6’7″ to adjust and block shots. Manek will have the chance to contribute at Oral Roberts as a freshmen. If he improves at the rate he did over his high school career at Oral Roberts he will be a special player. Not only is Manek a good player in the paint, but he is an even better locker room guy. Last but not least we can’t talk about Manek without mentioning his extremely high basketball IQ.
9. Darius Roy Lawton Ike Shooting Guard Signed to Mercer
Roy blew up in one weekend over the summer with the Oklahoma Wizards. Mercer fell in love with Roy’s ability to score the basketball at a high level. Roy is a high volume shooter. If Roy is hitting shots lookout it will be a long night for the defense. Some concerns for Roy at the next level, he is a little careless with the basketball at times, and can go on long cold streaks in some games. Mercer has strong Oklahoma ties, last season they signed Cory Kilby out of Ada. Roy could turn into a star in Macon if he stays in the gym and becomes consistent. We could see Roy and Mercer knocking off another power-5 conference team in March down the road.
10. Micah Speight Putnam City North Point Guard
Speight slides into the top ten with the great season he has had at Putnam City North. He doesn’t have much help around him, but I think his best attribute is he makes players around him better. Speight isn’t the biggest, but is super quick, and has a smooth jumper with great range. Going left is an area Speight has worked on over this season, he will need to continue to improve as he heads to the next level. Division I interest is picking up for Speight with his great senior season. Speight has held his own this season leading Putnam City North to host a regional for the first time in quite some time. Expect Speight to have a big impact on the college program he ends up with over his four years.
