PF Ammar Becar (Niles Notre Dame – 2016)
The 6’5” power forward from Niles Notre Dame couldn’t miss. He shot an incredibly high percentage from the field. Becar scored in a variety of ways including high/low finishes, baseline jumpers, mid-range J’s, and even knocked in a couple threes. Shoots the ball well with good form. While not the most athletic post he is crafty down low and knows how to use angles and the backboard to convert. Volume rebounder on the high school level. He had 26 points and 8 boards.
PF Anthony D’Avanzo (Niles Notre Dame – 2016)
D’Avanzo is a little more projectable for the next level. He stands at 6’7” with long arms and quality mobility. Showed that off on the defensive end with several weakside shot blocks. Offensively he ran the floor well scoring a couple times in transition, rolled well in the pick/roll game, and had an offensive rebound put back. Also converted a high/low finish. Potential as a low post scorer. D’Avanzo had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Would like to see him rebound at a higher rate. Projects as a quality D2 prospect.
G Lucas Simon (Niles Notre Dame – 2016)
Outstanding game for this rangy 6’4” combo guard. One of the best games I have seen him play throughout his career. The senior shot the ball extremely well early in the contest from mid-range. Moves well off the ball cutting to the hoop and can finish with his off-hand. Passed it well showing a solid feel for the game. Did have a couple get away telegraphing perimeter passes. Rebounded at a solid clip and was excellent defensively with his superior length in the first half. Quality D3/NAIA prospect. He had 12 points and 7 dimes.
SF Jeameril Wilson (Niles Notre Dame – 2017)
There is a lot to like physically with Wilson who stands at 6’6” with a college ready body. He totally looks the part, but hasn’t necessarily played like it when we have seen him this season. Friday he did! The junior was active early hitting the offensive glass for a pair of put backs. He attacked strong on the baseline using his combination of strength and explosiveness to finish at the cup. When he is going downhill Wilson is tough to contain. Passed well late in the game. Didn’t really shoot the ball. Potential D1 prospect and one we will be watching closely this spring. He had 17 points.
SG Chamar Hawkins (Marist – 2016)
Hawkins is an undervalued shooting guard in the senior class. He has a nice combination of strength and athleticism to go with a knack for putting the ball in the hoop. The 6’3” wing is powerful attacking the hoop where he is good getting in the lane with quickness off the bounce and finishes great through contact. He is like a running back that gets stronger with the more carries he gets. Solid mid-range shooter that can stretch it out three on occasion. Impressed defensively with his toughness and anticipation getting in passing lanes where he cut off several passes taking them the other way for scores. He had 29 points. Could potentially play at the D2 level in the right fit. High level D3/NAIA/JUCO prospect.
SG Kevin Lerma (Marist – 2016)
Lerma is an athletic shooting guard that was the only prospect for Marist that could hit consistently from deep. He was very good in catch and shoot situations. High pointed several contested rebounds. He had 14 points. Small college prospect.
PG Maurice Commander (Marist – 2018)
It was a very quiet first half for the 5’10” floor general of Marist. At the half he only had one bucket. The third quarter ignited the sophomore. Commander is a quick and shifty left handed guard that has speed with the ball. Excels in the open floor where he pushes it and makes plays. Struggled in the first half one on one, but got to the lane in the second half where he scored with his plus pull up mid-range jumper. Quick acceleration attacking the hoop. Showed off his vision on one play where he stole the ball and threaded the needle for an assist at the other end through traffic. He had 16 points. Potential D1 point guard in sophomore class.
SG Morgan Taylor (Marist – 2018)
The other sophomore guard for Marist that shined was Taylor. He is best attacking off the bounce and finishing at the rack. Athletic guard has strength and speed going downhill. He finished with 7 points.
