Continue ReadingOklahoma has become a place where colleges can find hidden gems at all levels. The state is loaded with talented guards. Today, we highlight players who are having a great season, but not getting the attention they deserve. Each player below is unsigned.
Curtis Haywood II Shooting Guard Mustang
Haywood II continues to dominate at Mustang in his senior campaign. He is receiving looks from many Division I programs and has an offer from Western Kentucky. He is long and athletic on the wing with tremendous upside. Haywood II has improved his shooting this season and makes defenders pay for any room they give him.
Marcus Dickinson Point Guard Norman North
Dickinson gets overshadowed at times with lots of the attention going to Trae Young, but he has had a stellar senior season at Norman North. He is getting Division I looks with his quickness and ability to run the show at the Point. He is a great competitor on both ends of the floor.
Elyjah Clark Combo Guard Deer Creek
Clark can play at the one or the two at 6’3″ for Deer Creek. He had an offer late in the summer from Mercer, but they signed another guard. However, Mercer has shown interest lately and could be a player late for Clark. He is without a doubt a Division I Guard in my opinion. Clark can get red hot from three-point range, has a decent handle, makes smart decisions, and is clutch.
Micah Speight Point Guard Putnam City North
Speight impresses each time I watch him with his ability to effect the game in so many different ways. Several Division I programs have entered the mix for Speight. He holds no Division I offers, but that could change in the near future. He isn’t the biggest at 5’11” but uses his quickness and high basketball IQ to get separation from his defenders. Speight is deadly from 3-PT range.
York Benjamin Power Forward Mustang
Benjamin stands at a legit 6’7″ 6’8″ in the paint. He is raw offensively, but has shown recently that he is improving. At Mustang this season Benjamin has become a double-double machine. He is getting some Division I looks from some LM programs. Division II have started to express interest as well. JUCO could be a possibility for Benjamin to develop more, but he is a qualifier.
Marquis Johnson Point Guard Putnam City West
Johnson is one of those players you always want on your team because he is a winner. Height is the only question for Johnson who stands about 5’10.” He can handle the rock, shoots it pretty well from mid-range and behind the arc, and plays hard non-stop. Division II programs have shown heavy interest in Johnson.
Kinzer Lambert Combo Guard Owasso
Lambert is one of the most athletic guards in the state. He can get to the rim and put his defender on a highlight reel. The one area of Lambert’s game that could use improvement is his outside shot. Several Division II programs have expressed great interest. He could possibly go to Prep School for a year and improve his stock.
Chandler Haley Small Forward Washington
Haley is a long lanky forward that can hurt opponents from behind the arc with his smooth jumper. He has received lots of interest from Division II programs. Haley stands at 6’8” which allows him to shoot over most defenders.
Bishop Coulter Power Forward Atoka
Coulter has had a great senior season at Atoka dominating in the paint. He is a little undersized at 6’7” but has a nice physical frame. Coulter can score pretty well and is a nice defender too. He is a double-double machine.
Gideon Gardner Shooting Guard Pawnee
Gardner is one of the best kept secrets in Oklahoma at the two. He is a little undersized around 6’ but his ability to shoot the ball from deep allows him to overcome his height. Gardner is the conversation of one of the best shooters in the 2016 Class.
Isaiah Hammons Point Guard
Hammons parted ways with the OKC Storm, but is working to finish his High School diploma. JUCO’s should give Hammons a look at the Point. He is athletic with good size and a big time scoring threat.
Ben Crider Forward Broken Arrow
Crider has not had the senior year he hoped for at Broken Arrow with the Tigers having a below 500 record, but he has had some nice performances. He stands at 6’5” he could be a nice stretch four with his ability to shoot from the outside. He isn’t the most athletic and his footwork is a little slow, which would make him a four at the next level instead of a 3. However, with some work he could transition as a 3 at some point in college. D2 and NAIA have shown strong interest in Crider.
Tyler Williams Combo Guard Edmond Santa Fe
Williams is receiving Division II and NAIA looks, but could be someone that goes the JUCO route. He is a nice piece with his athleticism and high basketball IQ. Williams is a big time competitor that will do anything to get his team a victory. If there is an area Williams could improve it is his 3-PT shot.
Parker Jennings Point Guard Bixby
Jennings is having a stellar senior season for the Bixby Spartans. He is very undersized, but has a great stoke from behind the arc. Jennings is one of the best in the 2016 Class in Oklahoma of creating his own shot. He can pull up very quickly catching his defender off guard. Jennings is receiving heavy Division II interest he holds a couple of offers.
KeJuan Frazier Point Guard Mustang
Frazier is an absolute hidden GEM in the 2016 Class in Oklahoma. He had a great summer scoring the basketball at an extremely high level with the Oklahoma Servants. He hasn’t scored as much with Mustang, but that is because that isn’t his role with the Broncos. Frazier I believe can play at the Division II level, but at this time is only hearing from NAIA programs. Whoever gets him will get a good basketball player and an even better person.
Richard Anderson Combo Guard Midwest City
Anderson has continued to fly under the radar despite having a great season for Midwest City. He scores the basketball well in all three phases of the game, plays tough defense and has a high basketball IQ. Division II’s have shown interest, but Anderson has no offers on the table. He has great upside.
Laef Payne Shooting Guard Verdigris
Payne is a super athlete that has thrived in Verdigris’s system. He scores by getting to the rim and finishing. Payne needs to improve his jump shot to be successful at the next level. The thing that makes Payne so good is he knows what he can do on the floor and sticks with it. Payne’s great athleticism, hustle, and hard work will make him successful at the next level. Several small colleges are showing interest in him.
Jeremiah Bozeman Combo Guard Alva
Bozeman is having a great season at Alva scoring the ball at a high level. He holds a couple of Division II offers and is receiving interest from a number of schools. His stock continues to rise with his ability to score in all three phases of the game.
Tevin Townsend Forward OKC Storm
Townsend is a long physical wing that can play at the 3 or 4 at the next level. He has improved handles and shooting ability from mid-range and behind the arc. He dominates driving inside and finishing through contact. Townsend has received lots of Division II and JUCO interest. He holds a couple of JUCO offers.
Todd Dawkins Small Forward McAlester
Dawkins is a sharp shooter from the outside that can fill it up in a hurry. He is receiving lots of Division II interest. The one downfall of Dawkins is he is a little slow on the court, but his shooting is unquestioned. He could be the best shooter in the 2016 Class from 3-PT range.
Lense Ramey Shooting Guard Kiefer
Ramey plays at a small school, but the success he is having shouldn’t be overlooked. He has scored over 2,000 points for his career standing at 6’4.” Ramey is receiving lots of NAIA interest right now and hearing from a couple of Division II programs. He is a great program player that has high basketball IQ being a coaches son.
Dakota Foster Combo Guard Westmoore
Foster has played at the Point for most of his career at Westmoore, but this year transitioned to the two. He can play both depending on where he goes to school next season. Foster can score it well driving to the hoop and has a nice jumper too. Division II and NAIA programs have been recruiting Foster.
Anslem Uzuegbunem Forward Harding Prep
Uzuegbunem is a very athletic forward that has had a big season at Harding Prep this year. He holds several Division II offers from out of state. He is a team player that plays very hard on both ends of the floor. If there is an area he could improve in college it is becoming a consist knock down mid-range shooter. Uzuegbunem will have options with several college offers on the table.
Derek Guest Shooting Guard Tulsa Memorial
Guest is very athletic and plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor. One downfall in his game is his jump shot at times. If he can constantly hit the outside jumper he becomes a dangerous piece at the next level. Guest is getting some JUCO and NAIA looks. JUCO could be perfect for him to gain confidence and grow as a player.
Don’Tray Wilkinson Point Guard Skiatook
Wilkinson is one of the best kept secrets in Oklahoma, mainly because he didn’t play much on the AAU circuit this past summer. He is quick stands above 6’ and runs the offense very well at Skiatook. Division II schools have expressed interest in Wilkinson.
Eli Edwards Guard Edison
Edwards can nearly play all five positions at Edison. He stands about 6’2” but can guard in the post because he is physical and plays extremely hard. He has a nice mid-range shot and great ability to drive. He needs to develop an outside jumper at the next level. Edwards holds an offer from an NAIA program in-state.
Isaac Leggins Forward Putnam City West
Leggins is big time in the paint for the Patriots! He gets it done in the post with toughness and grit. Leggins is undersized in the paint, but will find a program to play for at the next level because he is a team player, tough, high basketball IQ and puts in great work on the court. JUCO’s have expressed high interest in Leggins.
Peyton Moore Shooting Guard Edmond Memorial
Moore has had a rough senior season due to injuries that hampered him from playing until January. However, since then he has bounced back to his old form. He has decent athleticism, shot, and plays great defense. Many times Moore locks up the opponents best player on defense. He is receiving NAIA interest.
Garrett Pearson Combo Guard Harrah
Pearson is a sharp shooter from the outside that has thrived in Harrah’s system. He is a team player that sets up his teammates to put them in good spots. He has a decent handle and solid vision. Pearson is receiving interest from small colleges in the region.
Garrett Owen Point Guard Woodward
Owen is one of the best players not being talked about in Oklahoma. He is clutch, runs the show at the Point and has a smooth jumper. The big knock on him is his size, but he has proven he can play at a high level. Owen is receiving interest from Division II and NAIA programs.
Terrell Marshall Point Guard Jenks
Marshall is quietly having a great senior season at Jenks at the Point. He has given the Trojans great vision and another scoring threat at guard. Marshall is not receiving many looks at the moment, but could help an NAIA program.
Michael Harris Point Guard Tulsa Central
Harris started the season on fire posting 40 points for the Braves in a top-ten matchup. Since then he has not cooled off to much as he continues to be a great scorer. He is small, but his quickness and shooting ability make up for what he lacks in height. JUCO, Division II, and NAIA programs have all shown interest in Harris.
