Murkey, who you would also know as Ade Lamu before his last name changed, is leading the number one ranked Crusaders (19-2) with 22.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
“I feel really good about how the year is going so far, we are close to making history for our team and we have won some big games that will help us in the long run heading into sections and hopefully state as well.
“I think that we just need to bring it each and every game and not underestimate our opponents and play everyone how we played DeLaSalle.
“If we bring focus and play how we know we can play I don’t think a team in our class and above us can beat us. We just have to bring it.”
Murkey has added range to his game this year taking more jumpers from mid-range as well as a few shots at the arc in addition to what he can do explosively around the basket.
“I’m just taking shots I wouldn’t have last year, I’m playing more aggressive,” Murkey explained. “Looking for my offense.
“Last year I was more hesitant and a pass first person but this year I’m taking more control of the offense. Plus I’m all around game has just expanded with defense as well.
Ade’s been looked at by several division one programs as well as most of the NSIC schools that think they can add him. Several D1 programs continue to contact Ade and/or his coach.
“Right now Western Illinois, UMass, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Pacific, Valpo, Northern Iowa have show interest, Furman texted me a few days ago, also Nebraska-Omaha has show interest.
“I haven’t set up and visit dates yet but I plan on it. I don’t have a decision date yet either.”
The way Ade is playing several schools are likely to up their recruiting efforts as Murkey moves his team into March.
