However, as things continued, Jack Ammerman and Brandon Wade emerged for Skyline. By halftime, it was 36-18 for Skyline.
In the second half, Lincoln actually got some decent production from Ty Groce and Charve Patterson, but the team struggled with inbound plays and turnovers. Eventually, these mistakes added up and players like Ammerman and Wade were able to take advantage.
All told, Skyline got a 66-35 win over Lincoln.
Ann Arbor Skyline
Daniel Black, 6’4 junior, G/F
He played some excellent on-ball defense. Kept his hand in proper position on the ball and used his feet to prevent drives to the hoop. He was relatively quiet offensive, but did do some decent things without the ball. Black is ranked No. 133 overall in Prep Hoops Michigan’s rankings of the 2017 class.
Brandon Wade, 6-1 sophomore, G
Opened the game red hot. Not only did he have a great drive right out of transition, but went down and scored a big three to back it up. In the half court setting, Wade showed a really nice passing game that was primarily based on no-look passes off the drive. Late in the game, he also did a good job forcing contact while driving to the basket and finding open teammates, even when Lincoln put Ty Groce on him. His bread and butter is in the lane. He finished with 16 points on the night, which led all scorers. Wade is ranked No. 7 overall in Prep Hoops Michigan’s rankings of the 2018 class.
Sam Windsor, 6-3 junior, G/F
Converted on a nice layup under the hoop in the fourth quarter. His team was up big, but he was still fighting for possessions. Even fell to the floor trying to steal an inbound with just over a minute left in the game.
Christian Knox, 5-10 freshman, G
Slick guard that can run the floor well in transition. On Friday, he did most of his work in transition.
Jack Ammerman, 5-11 sophomore, G
Since the start of the season, Ammerman has established himself as one of the area’s best shooters. However, on Friday, he made a large portion of his contributions in other aspects of the game, including some that don’t show up on the stat sheet. He played intelligent defense, showed a solid handle, and made the passes necessary to keep the offense going. They weren’t “wow” plays, but they were crafty, particularly around the rim. Overall, he finished with 13 points. Ammerman is ranked No. 34 overall in Prep Hoops Michigan’s rankings of the 2018 class.
Jeff Knight, 6-5 junior, C
Made some quality effort plays. Whether it was fighting for a rebound inside or setting a screen. Wasn’t perfect, but it was a hard fought game for him.
Ypsilanti Lincoln
Jesse Davis, 6-2 sophomore, G
Excellent pass in a ball screen situation to the roll man. Got both defenders to move out and dumped it to the roller for a wide open layup. Late in the game, he also made a really nice pass on the perimeter after a defender was out of position on the other side of the floor to set up a wide open teammate.
Nolan Myles – 6-4 junior, F
Made a play in the second quarter where he actually missed his first look, but stayed committed, got the rebound, and scored on his second attempt.
Tray Jackson, 6-7 sophomore, G
Despite being relatively quiet on the offensive end, Jackson showed some consistent defense and a solid presence on the boards. He clearly has a skillset that will be a force once he combines his handle, smooth shooting, and length. Jackson is ranked No. 14 in Prep Hoop Michigan’s 2018 rankings.
Tyler Robinson, 5-10 senior, G
Late in the game, he was able to get a nice drive to the hoop that got him to the free throw line. Stayed low with his on-ball defense as well, though he did get a tad too aggressive a few times.
JeJuan Williams, 6-2 senior, C
Although he’s still continuing to work on some parts of his game including his passing, he went to work in the lane and was able to get to and convert from the free throw line on a consistent basis.
Charve Patterson, 6-2 senior, G
Displayed a smooth shooting stroke and connected on a few from long range. Finished with eight points.
Ty Groce – 6-7 senior, F
Undoubtedly, Groce remains one of the most unique players in the area due to his unique combination of length and athleticism. He didn’t have a huge night compared to his typical standards, but he still did quite a bit on the boards and in defending the lane. He probably had a few opportunities get away from him under the basket, but Lincoln had trouble getting the ball inside consistently. Overall, he finished with nine points. Groce is ranked No. 7 in Prep Hoop Michigan’s 2016 rankings.
Isaiah Brown, 6-4 sophomore, C
Despite coming in late when the game was already out of hand, he showed some tough and physical play inside. Had one particular play in the fourth quarter where he was able to grab an offensive rebound over a few teammates and converted.
