Jaylen Minnett
6’1 – PG – 2017
This wasn’t the best game for Minnett as he went 0/5 from three and 3/9 from inside the arc. He didn’t shoot his team out the game and that is one of his better attributes. He spaced out his opportunities after he noticed early he didn’t have the touch. Jaylen got on a roll in the second half with a slew of assists that helped push THS into the lead. The biggest thing for Minnett between now and next year is to find consistency in his jump shot. Has to bring it every game. – 8 points, 4 assits
DeAvion Washington
6’2 – SG – 2018
Washington has been really good in the two THS games I’ve watched this year. He’s really been good at getting to the rim more often and factoring into the game. He was a rebound short of a double-double but the fact that he had 9 boards says a lot. He’s been very active and just doing that allows his skills to play up. DeAvion has cemented his level as a DI player, now he just needs to keep developing and figure out how good he can end up. – 11 points, 9 rebounds
Matt Deady
6’5 – SF – 2016
Really like Matt and if this was one of his “bad” game, I think that is a great sign. He didn’t make that many jump shots tonight and left some at the rim but he walked away with 9 points and some of those were clutch ones in the second half. He’s got a great skill set for a DII program where his size and ability to play on the perimeter and bring some hidden athleticism could really be huge for a team. Matt was all athlete last time I watched. This time, perimeter scorer. – 9 points, 2 rebounds
Jesse Brown
5’9 – PG – 2017
Not sure how good Brown could be, need to see him against higher level competition, but he’s proven to be really good for this team. He hit 3/5 from behind the arc and was the only person really putting up points in the first half. Plays off the ball a decent amount and when he does he’s primarily a catch-and-shoot guy. When he has the ball he can be a bit of a get-in-the-lane guy who makes plays once he gets their. Can distribute or score on runs to the basket. He’s not great at running the point but good enough and a good enough scorer to make things interesting. – 16 points, 2 assists
Plainfield:
Conner Brens
6’5 – PF – 2017
This was an eye-opening game from my perspective from Brens. This was what I thought he could be but haven’t yet seen it from him. He was very active and aggressive in the post where he was able to grab both offensive and defensive rebounds. On the offensive end he was great getting boards and finishing off of those. He also showed a couple nice perimeter drives to the hoop to get points. Still not clean drives or able to get all the way there but a nice asset I didn’t think he had. If he can show a repeat performance of this, I’ll really start buying in. – 14 points, 11 rebounds
Max Kurkowski
6’7 – SF – 2016
Different kind of game from Max tonight as he played more of a role rather than fall into his normal game. They needed to dominate the boards and that seemed to be his task and in doing so he ended up around the basket and scoring there more than normal. Usually he mixes in some of that with a ton of perimeter jumpers but tonight he only took two three-pointers. Nice to see him move at the rim more. In college he should add weight and that will become a bigger part of his game. Looks confident with it now. – 19 points, 7 rebounds
Tyler West
6’2 – SG – 2017
West started off the game hot, similar to Brown for THS, where he gave them a few key threes early. Tyler will have to find more opportunities to make plays outside of long jump shots. In the few games I’ve seen of his this year he’s been good at knocking those down but that is about all he has done. Good size, good frame with a chance to be a little more diverse in the next year. – 10 points
