Warrensville Heights
The Tigers might still be one of the best teams in Division III, but they still can’t get the consistency they need. They sit at 7-7, and while things have improved since Yavari Hall returned from injury, Warrensville Heights recently dropped two league games (Lorain and Cleveland Heights). The Tigers’ season ended early last season, and a similar result might be on the horizon unless it gets any sort of production inside.
Cleveland Heights
Much has been made about Cleveland Heights’ schedule, but at some point, you have to win some games, and at 4-9, this team is not doing much of that. Everyone knows the talent is there and the district is favorable, but the confidence is missing. For this team to know it can string together wins in March, it needs to win now. Seeing is believing, and the Tigers must see themselves winning tight games against good competition.
Cleveland Central Catholic
It’s late-January, and while the Ironmen are 9-4 and are getting a terrific season from Terrell Beck, the team is still sort of an enigma. Their best win is against Brunswick, and it’s not clear where this team fits into the picture in Division II. Guard play is the key here, as the Ironmen don’t get much scoring out of their backcourt, and with potential postseason games against Benedictine or East Tech, they will need to.
Copley
The biggest enigma of them all. Copley is undefeated, but doesn’t have a win against a Top 25 team. Still, the Indians have won all but two games by double-digits, so it’s not like they are barely getting these wins. Given its schedule, Copley could easily run the table, but we still probably won’t know much about this team until the postseason.
Medina
Before the season began, this looked like a state tournament contender. However, while the Bees started fast, they are now just 4-3 in their last seven games. It’s a given that Jon Teske will produce, but if his teammates aren’t knocking down shots, Medina struggles. Keep in mind, it was about this time a year ago that this team found its groove and made it all the way to the regional semifinals, and the talent is there to do that again.
