Continue ReadingSt. Croix Lutheran is sitting at the top spot in our Class AA rankings, having only lost two games: Class A powerhouse Mpls North and AAAA school Wayzata. They’re led by a senior quartet of Duluth-signed Trenton Krueger, Aage Rovney, Venkat Valluri and Ade Murkey (formerly Lamu). Murkey is averaging a double-double with 20.5 PPG and 10.4 RPG.
Ade’s real position is in flux a bit. St. Croix uses him as a 6-foot-5 point forward, someone who brings the ball up but passes it off and gets to the high or low post. He’s very effective around the rim, and he’s there out of necessity since he’s the strongest and bounciest kid on St. Croix by far. In the spring and summer, he played on the wing for D1 Minnesota, likely at the position that he will play in college.
As his recruitment currently stands, he has a D1 offer from Vermont and full-ride D2 offers from local programs UM-Duluth and Winona State. He’s giving the process one last push to see if any more offers come through, and there are plenty of D1s interested.
“Western Illinois, UMass, Valparaiso, Northern Iowa, Furman, Nebraska-Omaha, Pacific, some of the Dakotas,” Murkey listed as programs that have expressed interest. “The Vermont offer is still standing, too. I talk to them here and there; any offer I have is an offer.”
According to him, the D2s are still an option.
“I haven’t really talked to Duluth in a while, but Winona I talk to here and there.”
So what’s the plan from here on out?
“First off, I’m trying to take the team as far as possible, then I will see,” Murkey said. “I talked to Western Illinois about a visit, then I’m also thinking about UMass, some of the Dakotas. I’ll probably go out to Omaha. Furman is coming up to see me soon.”
