Continue ReadingI think it’s a pretty fair assessment to say that overall the post prospects in the class of 2016 aren’t near what we have seen in past years. There however are several quality prospects including the top two that are still on the board at power forward. Here we break down the four and five positions.
At power forward the top two players are still available. St. Joseph’s power forward Nick Rakocevic has made a major comeback putting up crazy numbers on a nightly basis after a not so great summer. Lake Forest four man Lorenzo Edwards is a crafty big that knows how to score around the hoop. Six other power forwards have made commitments to D1 schools in Brandon Johnson (Western Michigan), Noah McCarty (Northern Illinois), Elyjah Goss (IUPUI), Nick Finke (Army), James Gordon (Toledo), and Brandon Suggs (Bethune Cookman). After Rakocevic and Edwards it is a bit of a drop off to the next best available posts in Simeon’s Terrell Phipps, Niles Notre Dame’s Anthony D’Avanzo, Hinsdale Central’s Peter Blust, and Lincoln Way West’s Jon Marotta. All project as quality D2 prospects that in the right situation could be low-major guys.
At the small college level there are many options. Oswego’s Brice Robinson, Proviso West’s Liddell Davis, Naperville Central’s Harry Hallstrom, Richwoods’ Kaelen Johnson, Morgan Park’s Alonzo Chatman, Niles Notre Dame’s Ammar Becar, and Danville’s Jordan Cunningham each bring different skills to the table that make them high level D3/NAIA players.
The center position is headlined by Hinsdale South post Barret Benson (Northwestern). The top 5 prospect overall is having a very good senior campaign. The lone other D1 prospect is Geneva’s Loudon Vollbrecht (South Dakota State) who is a big bodied post that dominated in the spring and summer with Tri City Thunder.
Marian Catholic’s Myles Howard and Farragut’s Tawone Keith are intriguing posts with physical tools potentially at the D2 level. Rock Island’s William Miles, Downers Grove South’s Donovan Ferguson, and Maine South’s Brad Perry are high level D3/NAIA guys to look at.
