At the D1 level it is led by Morgan Park’s Charlie Moore (Memphis) and Curie’s Devin Gage (DePaul). Each are leading their teams that could be considered the state title favorites in the 3A and 4A groups at the mid-way point of the season. Other committed prospects that have found homes include Tarkus Ferguson (UIC), Jarrin Randall (Western Michigan), Micah Bradford (Valpo), Matty Smith (Central Michigan), Bryce Barnes (Wisconsin Milwaukee), and CJ Duff (Western Illinois). There remains one D1 point guard on the table in my opinion and that is Fenwick 5’10” point guard Mike Smith. He will make a low-major program very happy as he is the #3 overall floor general available in the class.
One player that ended up at the D2 level who in my opinion is right there with the D1 guys is Genoa Kingston’s Tommy Lucca (Michigan Tech). The high IQ and dynamic guard will make an impact in college from day 1. Another quality D2 pick up was Bloomington’s Ilijah Donnelly (University of Illinois Springfield). Slick handling guard with size is a steal for them with projectablity and upside. Missouri Western State also picked up a good one in Rock Island’s Jason Jones who knows how to run a team. Who is left at the D2 level? That list would be led by Springfield Lanphier point guard Xavier Bishop. He could probably play at a low-D1 school, but the 5’9” explosive scorer would be a star for a division two program. A few other guys that should be under consideration include Galesburg’s Ethan Meeker and Centralia’s D’Aaron Owens.
Lots of options at the D3 and NAIA levels. A couple of schools have already capitalized on the depth here with Mt. Vernon lead guard Braden Fitzjerrells heading to Lindenwood-Belleville and Batavia’s Canaan Coffey opting for Indiana Wesleyan. Some of my favorites that will be impact guys still on the board include Daniko Jackson (Riverside Brookfield), Josh Robinson (Normal West), Creig Atkins (DePaul Prep), James McQuillan (St. Charles East), Darius Branch (Leo), Devon Sams (Bolingbrook), and Lou Griffith (Washington).
