Stars are supposed to shine on the biggest stages and that is what happened for senior Eastern Kentucky commit Parker Chitty in the Shelbyville Golden Bears and the Columbus East Olympians game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Chitty scored 28 points and 10 rebounds but that was not all that he did in the game to help Columbus East take the win 66-57.
Chitty also had five steals in the game all at very critical moments and also added in three assists.
The game was very sloppy throughout for both teams with numerous turnovers and both teams gave up offensive rebounds. Shelbyville had 13 offensive rebounds and 14 turnovers while Columbus East had 17 turnovers and seven offensive boards.
The Olympians gained a 27-16 midway through the second and the Golden Bears battled back to cut the lead to 30-22 at halftime.
Columbus East would stretch their lead to 38-30 before Shelbyville stormed back to tie the game at 38 apiece.
Shelbyville created turnovers and capitalized on them making baskets at the other end to force a Columbus East timeout before the game got out of hand.
The timeout worked as the Olympians rattled off 15 straight points to take the lead 53-40 and take total control of the game. Shelbyville after this did not get any more momentum as they started to throw up shots very quickly.
Shelbyville, being a young team also freaked out a big and started committing fouls sending Columbus East to the line. They hit 10-of-15 fouls shots through the middle six minutes of the quarter when it mattered to seal the victory.
Chitty led all scorers with 28 points and was the only player on his team in double figures.
Junior John Lux led Shelbyville with 18 and sophomore Cooper Lewis added in 11 points.
