Evan Lowden
6’1 – SG – 2017
It will be interesting to see how good Lowden is in a year. He’s been a guy I didn’t know before the season and didn’t recognize in the first game I watched but the last two he has left an impact. Getting starts and looks like the most creative scorer on his team. Showed great touch in the mid-range and can do a quick pull-up or stepback to create the space. Nice touch out to three and can ball fake and drive. Needs to be a bit more consistent from start to finish of the game but he’s been one of the best players on the floor the last two games I’ve seen of Avon. With another year of development he could be pretty good.
Jack McCue
5’10 – PG – 2016
Not McCue’s biggest game in terms of shooting or scoring but did more in the inside of the three point line tonight. Jack should get credit for being pretty efficient. He’s not a guy who shoots his team out of a game but he can be a guy at the next level that only needs 4-5 shots to get you 6-8 points in a game off the bench. He shoots a good percentage from behind the arc and while undersized he can be creative finishing at the rim. Not the most athletic guy but can be creative and strong and knows how to draw contact.
Jordan Peterson
5’11 – PG – 2016
This was a solid outing for Peterson who has been struggling at times to find shots. Tonight, he went for it and made a few of them. He’s not what you would consider a jump shooter, he’s a guy who likes to drive and get to the rim. He’s a solid free throw shooter and can rack up points that way. In this game he hit a pair of threes in the middle of the game that helped to keep the lead in hand for Avon. He also made another mid-range shot a little later. Form still needs tweaked but he’s got the ability to be productive with some fine tuning.
Plainfield:
Max Kurkowski
6’7 – SF – 2016
Have to give Max a bone this season as he team is really struggling and teams can matchup on him, double down in the post and really slow this team down. To Max’s credit, he’s had to find ways to be more efficient and he has done that. He isn’t shooting as freely from behind the arc this season as he has previously because he’s driving more. Draws more fouls and has done well getting to the rim to finish. Knows how to use his length decently well and playing stronger than he has in the past. Probably not the stats he wanted this season but gets credit for being more of the player his team needs him to be.
Tyler West
6’0 – PG – 2017
West stepped up in the middle of the game to give Plainfield someone else who could hit a bucket. The junior guard showed that he could knock down the open jumper. He hit two of those in the second quarter on back-to-back shots. He’s a capable lead guard who showed he’s got some handles to his game, enough to get him up the floor and into position. This is the second game where he was able to put points up on the board. A guy that has jumped on the list of players to watch more in 2017.
