Just a junior, the Lenox point guard is averaging more assists per game than points. It does help to have one of the state’s best bigs – senior Spencer Brown – to find in the paint.
2 Connor Sonius, 9.1 APG
Sonius’ dominance has spanned four years now, but his senior season has without a doubt been his best so far. The 6-foot-guard not only has a high assist rate, but is averaging 17 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.2 steals per game too.
3 Jake Hilmer, 8.9 APG
Hilmer has been superb this season as a freshman, and has led his North Linn Lynx to a 9-0 record. His numbers across the board are off the charts for such a young player; 16.9 points, 5.1 steals, and 4.1 rebounds per game.
4 Jovonte Squiers, 8.5 APG
A mainstay on the assist leaders list over the past two seasons, the Lone Tree junior spent his summer honing his skills with the Iowa Mavericks, and he leads his team in scoring, steals, blocks, and rebounds too.
5 Mason Olson, 7.7 APG
A true pass-first point guard, the Northwood-Kensett senior averages just 4 points per game, but can dish it out with the best of them.
6 Tyreke Locure, 7.6 APG
A special talent at Des Moines North, the freshman point guard has been the catalyst to a team that is off to a blistering 7-1 start. He will be a top-5 2019 when the initial prospect rankings are released in March.
7 Jon Weber, 7.4 APG
A do-it-all senior point guard for South Hardin, Eldora. Weber averages 7.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game.
8 Levi Jansen, 7.0 APG
An Iowa Mr. Basketball candidate, Jansen is known for his shooting, and scoring prowess, but he’s excelling at passing this season. His shooting numbers are still superb, and he’s averaging 18 points per game to boot. He’s an Augustana (SD) commit.
T8 Coleton Barz, 7.0 APG
The senior is leading Hampton-Dumont in every statistical category and the Bulldogs have won three straight. Barz is 6-foot-4 and has certainly played himself into the next installment of 2016 rankings.
10 Timothy Doering, 6.8 APG
He’s a triple-double threat each night out, and has been atop the scoring and assist charts for two seasons now. His Waterloo Christian squad has won three straight, and Doering is averaging 25.6 points, and 8.5 rebounds per game.
