Especially in the backcourt where there a multiple D1 prospects left and plenty of other talent across the board. We’ll talk about the top 11 available here and what they’d bring to the table for a team interested.
Malik Crowfield (6’4 SG, Riverside) – Crowfield is a winner by nature who visited VCU this past weekend. High level shooter who has the athleticism to defend the perimeter as well. Could play the point at times and defends multiple positions for his high school team. Three straight state titles and looking for his 4th this year.
Herbert McGee (6’2 SG, Riverside) – Oddly enough, the top two guards have been playing together for ages. Herb is a two sport star who has to decide if he’s football first or both at the next level. Like Crowfield, he shoots the ball at a high level, can play both backcourt spots, and defends it extremely well.
Troy Green (6’3 SG, East St. John) – Green is a thick and physical guard who makes his hay bullying other guards on his way to the rim. Can shoot it from outside but much more effective as a slasher. Handles it well enough to get his own basket and can defend either wing position with his size and length. LM offers.
Devante Jones (6’0 PG, St. Augustine) – Jones played in the EYBL this summer where he routinely took big shots for EP Elite. Can knock down shots and make plays for his teammates. Played off the ball in EYBL but has very nice court vision and a thick build for his HS team. Defensively and hustle plays are where he does his best work.
Toliver Freeman (6’3 SG, Catholic) – Like Green, Freeman has the size to push past guards he isn’t quicker than and the length to stay in front of those same guards. Has shot is better throughout his carer and is an extremely high academic prospect who could fit into the Ivy League nicely.
Jordan Adebutu (6’2 SG, Scotlandville) – Early in his career he was used as a stretch four but has proven his transition to the off guard position is seamless. A knockdown shooter who played with Jones in the EYBL. Not the quickest player but still defends with his IQ. Putting up assists numbers as well for SLV and his athleticism is budding.
Ronnie Hamilton (6’2 PG, Baker) – Hamilton is a slick ball handler who thrives in both ISO situations and as the P&R handler. He’s not afraid of any competition and can put on a show if the opposing defenders aren’t ready. Needs improvement on his jump shot. Defends with length and quickness.
Michael Bryant (6’3 SG, Brusly) – Mike Bryant is another high academic kid but he also possesses extreme athleticism with the ability to score it in bunches. Shoots it well from outside and scores on multiple levels. Needs to defend more consistently and play more consistent overall. Quiet kid who listens well.
Caleb Hebert (6’0 PG, Tioga) – Hebert is more of a scorer from the point guard position but that’s out of necessity at times. Can lead a team and has been playing big minutes on a good team for four years now. Defends on ball and in passing lanes and is accustomed to putting up big defensive steal numbers as well as scoring.
Tykeem Anderson (6’2 SG, Ruston) – Anderson is built like most North Louisiana kids in that he plays a physical game and has a body that has spent plenty of time in the weight room. Like Green and Freeman, what he lacks in quickness is made up in physicality and a motor when attacking the rim.
Brandon Ellis (6’0 PG, Northside) – Went past the traditional 10 because Ellis is a floor general unlike the rest. He has an extremely high IQ and makes everyone around him better. Best as a playmaker whose hands you can trust the ball in late in games. That is a reason he’s sniffed higher offers than some before him.
