A tight game throughout the first half, Beckman scored four points in the final five seconds, when Colton Willenbring drove and scored a layup, stole the ensuing inbound pass and got it to Sam Stelken for another layup, giving the Blazers a 31-27 lead at the break.
CPU came out aggressive in the third quarter, extending their defense and getting a number of easy buckets, to take a 45-44 lead after three. The fourth quarter was the Grant Dirks show early, as he scored 10 of his game-high 25 points in the first four minutes of the quarter. Beckman took the lead with just under 3:00 minutes left, then used great free throw shooting (20-24 on the night) to ice the game away.
Beckman (7-2) was led by Colton Willenbring, who had 21. Colin Squiers added 17, Sam Stelken 14 and Riley LeGrand 12. The win was the Blazers’ fifth straight, and they look like a force to be reckoned with not only in the WaMaC, but also in Class 2A. They’re a fun team to watch, constantly looking to push in transition, and they’ve got a number of scoring weapons.
Center Point-Urbana (4-5) was led by Grant Dirks, with 25 points. Jace Jirak came off the bench to add 14 for the Stormin’ Pointers.
