Prospect Watch: Xavier Womack (Junior College)
Former Cardinal Ritter College Prep standout Xavier Womack put in a lot of work during a very successful freshman campaign at Johnson County Community College (KS)
The 6’6″ combo forward was named the Freshman of the Year in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference after leading Johnson County to a 17-11 record and a Division II league title.
“Being the freshman of the year has really helped my confidence,” Womack said. “It makes me want to work harder in everything I do.”
After his strong freshman campaign, Womack has started to hear from a number of Division I schools. He has received interest from Southeast Missouri State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Cal-State Fullerton and Missouri State.
Womack was in Cape Girardeau last weekend to participate in the SEMO Elite Camp. While the camp was mostly high school players, Womack was one of the few selected junior college players who was invited so the SEMO coaching staff can get a look at him. He was able to showcase his versatile set of skills and that athleticism that makes him a very difficult player to match up with. He has excellent length along with the ability to score around the basket or take bigger players outside and knock down jumpers. He is quite comfortable playing on the wing as a small forward or as a Stretch 4 in a small-ball lineup.
As a freshman at Johnson County, Womack averaged 12.5 points and 7.7 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range and 70 percent from the free throw line.
“It was a big adjustment from high school to the junior college level, especially on defense,” he said. “I really learned a lot and I continued to get better over the course of the season. I am still working to improve my ball handling and shooting. I feel like I have the athletic ability. It’s just a matter of working on all aspects of my game.”
