Recruiting Report: Jared Courtney (2020)
Franklin County has a very strong returning team with most of their core coming back from last season. One large part of that core is Junior point guard Jared Courtney. Jared describes his game as “An all around point guard with a high basketball IQ who can create my own shot or set up my teammates. I’m a good shooter but I can also put it on the floor and create shots in the lane or at the rim.” Courtney is working hard this season to improve on his strength and looking to help his team more next year by becoming a better rebounder. Coming off his sophomore year as a starter, Jared was pleased with his development over the course of the year, “For my first year starting I was pleased with my development. I started off the season a little nervous but ended the season as a poised PG. I shot the ball pretty well and got my teammates involved with almost 4 assists per game. We came up short of our goals as a team but I am looking forward to making some noise next season.”
Jared is spending his spring and summer playing AAU with The Ville. Courtney is looking ahead to what he hopes is a big July for himself and his teammates, “We’ve played well despite some players battling injuries. Look for us to make some noise in July.” Coming out of the spring, Jared is a hot name with college coaches, the Point Guard has heard from several schools at multiple levels, “I’ve heard from St. Joseph’s University, North Carolina Wesleyan, East Tennessee State University, Bucknell University, Holy Cross , Williams College, Tampa, and many other D2 and D3 colleges”. Jared attributes his improved 3 point shooting to a good AAU season. When asked what his goals are for the 2018-19 season are, Courtney’s answer was simple, “I want to help my team win games.” Franklin County should win plenty of games next season and has a chance to compete with the top tier of 11th region teams this season. If the Flyers can steal a few big games, Jared Courtney is likely to be a large reason why.
