2019 Providence G Ahren Freeman talks leadership, recruitment and more
This past season was a memorable one for 2019 Providence guard Ahren Freeman.
The 6’6″, 230-pounder has been working hard to improve his game since he arrived at Providence. He was named the Class 4A-District 2 Player of The Year by FABC as the Stallions finished 23-6, losing to P.K. Yonge in the region final, 43-42.
Freeman averaged 18 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 4.0 APG and 2.0 SPG for Providence this season.
“My junior year at Providence went great. I tied multiple records at Providence and broke one also, scoring the most free throw attempts in a season with 203 and I also had the most in the city,” Freeman told Prep Hoops.
Me becoming comfortable being the leader of the team was what really allowed my game to elevate. I got comfortable taking most of the shots in the game mixing it up between being aggressive and driving to the hole, shooting mid-range jumpers/pull-ups, and knocking down 3’s.”
Four offers on Freeman’s table as of now from FGCU, Presbyterian, McNeese State and New Orleans. He also has drawn interest from Murray State, Maryland Baltimore County, Wofford, North Alabama, Lipscomb and Georgetown.
“They all love my aggressiveness and my ability to play any position,” Freeman said.
He’s playing with Team Knight, the same program he starting running with last July.
“Playing with them is really fun because we are all so comfortable with each other’s game and everyone gets theirs,” Freeman said. “Communication is great and the overall team ball is why we are winning games.”
In terms of his biggest strengths, he pointed to his finishing inside and his mid-range game.
Freeman says he wants to become a great 3-point shooter, labeling himself a good 3-point shooter right now.
“That’s what I’ve been working on this summer because I know I need to be able to knock down deep jumpers consistently in college,” he said.
Watching Freeman take command of his group is really impressive. He’s vocal throughout and can run plays with ease in the Providence system. He bought in early on and his leadership and tough play will continue to get him Division I offers. Freeman always plays with purpose and his role as the No. 1 guy will do wonders for him down the road.
