Several prominent players changing schools in Northeast Ohio
Several significant starters for Northeast prep programs like St. Ignatius and Garfield Heights will be wearing different jerseys this winter as they transfer schools.
Here are just a few of them:
Tevin Jackson (2020) transferring to Cleveland Central Catholic from St. Ignatius.
A quick ball-handling point guard, Jackson started at St. Ignatius as a sophomore but will now be playing at Central Catholic.
His experience will help the team replace it’s entire starting five from a year ago; including the Jackson twins, Delshawn and Dyshaun.
Jackson is expected to bring leadership and a high basketball IQ to the floor when he plays this winter for CCC.
“He’s a very smart basketball player,” said CCC coach Jordan Duke.
Kevin Bishop (2019) is leaving Shaker Heights and will finish up his career at Benedictine.
The 6’5” Bishop is a banger inside who can rebound, score close to the rack and has big game experience having started a year ago for a Shaker team that was among the more closely followed and better teams in the Northeast Ohio area.
Prephoops.com Ohio has him ranked as the 168th player in his class.
Nigel Martin (2019) is leaving John Hay and heading to Cleveland Heights.
The 6’6” guard is one of the top players in his class. He averaged around 24 points a game as a junior and can also ring up big assist and rebound numbers.
Alonzo Gaffney (2019) is leaving from Garfield Heights and coach Sonny Johnson and headed to an undisclosed prep school.
It’s been widely reported, rumored, waxed on poetically that the No. 1-ranked player in the state of Ohio was leaving Garfield Heights for a prep school.
Gaffney has not commented on the report, but several trusted sources have said that is the case.
Gaffney earlier committed to Ohio State.
The guy can do it all, hit 3’s, rebound, bring the ball down the floor, block shots, finish…he’s really long, really athletic and really skilled. His landing place will be his third school in three years.
His departure will mean more touches and shots for sophomore sensation point guard Meechie Johnson Jr. (2021) and senior big Brison Waller (2019), who at 6’9” is a less skilled but just as an athletic player as Gaffney.
