June Stock Risers
Each June, a crop of stock-risers emerges. It’s a time when guys can show out with their high school squads at team camps. After a spring of honing skills on their own time and with their AAU teams, there’s plenty of showing out to be had. Also, offers steadily roll in during the month of June. Below, we take a look at eight guys that boosted their stock this month.
Noah Carter, 6’5 F (Dubuque, Senior) — 2019
The bouncy and skilled combo-forward was already having a big spring, he had Truman State, Lehigh and South Dakota State offers come in before June. Then he continued to bolster his stock with two mid-major offers, from Drake and Northern Iowa.
Tamin Lipsey, 6’1 G (Ames) — 2022
He’s so young, he doesn’t even really have a stock yet, we don’t even have a Watch List out for the incoming freshman yet. But if there was a list he’d be on it, and if there were 2022 rankings, he’d be number one. Lipsey was offered by Iowa State after Ames played in the Cyclones’ team camp a couple weeks ago.
Antonio Turner, 5’9 PG (Iowa City High) — 2019
Currently ranked 81st in Iowa’s 2019 class, Turner has dropped in the previous rankings as a result of underwhelming high school seasons. We saw him at the Centennial team camp at the beginning of June, and he was borderline dominant. He could have a big-time senior season for the Little Hawks.
DJ Carton, 6’2 PG (Bettendorf) — 2019
He’s already the second-ranked 2019 prospect, so you can guess where the stock riser will be in the next installment of rankings. He and current No.1 Patrick McCaffery each were one of 36 guys invited to try out for the USA U18 squad. Carton made is past the first cut, to the final 18.
Jack Keough, 6′ PG (Dowling) — 2019
He’s ranked No. 100 right now, and that’s too low. The Maroons point guard is a guy we’ve seen play and have been impressed in the past, but he’s always taken a back-seat to other guards (Sam Ingoli, Joey Kern), and he’s more well-known for his football prowess anyways. But he’s still a heck of a basketball player, and will surprise lots of people as the leader of the Maroons next season.
Carson Crile, 6’4 SF (Fairfield) — 2019
He’s a versatile and big combo-forward, who can hit a 3-ball and us gig and skilled enough to score in the paint. Crile is certainly a college hoops prospect, and NAIA and D3 schools should be reaching out. He’ll be bumped up from his current 160 spot in the 2019 rankings.
Tre McCrary, 6′ PG (Cedar Rapids Xavier) — 2020
Although he has yet to play any varsity with the Saints, one of the best hoops programs in the state, it looks more and more like his time is coming. McCrary’s spent the last two seasons watching and learning from current South Dakota State point guard Matthew Mims, and could be a guy who has a breakout season as a junior.
Hosea Treadwell, 6’2 G (Des Moines Hoover) — 2019
He’s ranked No. 42 right now in the 2019 rankings, but he’s been looking more like a top-25 guy this spring for Hoover and Kingdom Hoops. He’s fearless, confident, skilled and he’s grown to 6’2. If Division II schools aren’t reaching out, they might want to consider it. Low D1s might want to take a look.
