The Roundball Remix Preview
This weekend at Burnsville High School the Roundball Remix event (put on by Team Get Shook) will have a lot of solid names competing and today NHR takes a look at the competition.
17U. This division has two four team brackets that are separate from one another. Each team will play two pool play games and then two bracket games in a four team bracket. The first division is made up of Team Get Shook graduated seniors, the Gain Elite 16s who are 18-6 and ranked 7th in the state, Minnesota Mentality who is a well coached group of 17u players that have a 21-11 record and are ranked 13th in the state, and then Howard Pulley Justice, a team made up mostly of the Pulley Panthers that don’t see as much time on their 13 man EYBL team roster (this will be their first event though so we have only heard of a couple names that are surely playing).
We aren’t sure who would be on the Team Get Shook alumni squad but there are several talented players on the 17u squad which we give you below:
17U Ten to Watch
- J’Vonne Hadley of Gain Elite 16s (Mahtomedi)
- Blake Remme of Gain Elite 16s (Spring Lake Park)
- Tyler Andrews of Gain Elite 16s (Kennedy IA)
- Amir Whitlock of Gain Elite 16s (Park Center)
- Curtis Jones of Mentality MN (Cretin-Derham Hall)
- James Sommer of Mentality MN (Cristo Rey Jesuit)
- Marcus Shepley of Mentality MN (Burnsville)
- Kameron Givens of Mentality MN (DeLaSalle)
- Jalen Justice of Howard Pulley 2 (Cooper)
- Alex John of Howard Pulley 2 (Champlin Park)
The second 17U group is made up of CEO Kings, Minnesota Pharoas, one of the Grassroots Minnesota teams, and Twin Cities Finest. TC Finest is 12-14 on the year and has played in a lot of solid events while the CEO Kings and Pharoas seemed to get rolling in May and have played in good local events as well.
16U. This division has 15 teams total split into two different brackets. The headliner is the host team Team Get Shook who is 19-11 on the year and ranked in the Minnesota 16u top ten. They are competitive team with a solid lead guard in Juwan Grant, a quality big in Treyton Thompson who stands 6-foot-9, and watch out for Armani Davis who at 6-foot-6 from Cooper is a player we think could turn a corner and be really good.
Another squad that is playing in the Roundball Remix is 12th ranked Mpls FAB who owns an 18-11 record this year. This will be their first event since making the NHR State Tournament 16u final four earlier in the month. A third top 15 level 16u team in Minnesota playing in the Roundball Remix is the Minnesota Phenom, a battle tested club with a 16-12 record. Add in solid teams in the Minnesota Suns, TC Finest, and Rip City from Minnesota as well as Playground Elite from Wisconsin and this is an interesting field.
15U. This is noteworthy because this will be the only time this year that you see a Grassroots Minnesota team, a Howard Pulley team, and a D1 Minnesota team (14s) playing in the same bracket. Throw in Gain Elite, Team Get Shook, the Wisconsin Playmakers, and the Minnesota Phenom and the interest is up! There is not a specification of the Howard Pulley or Gain Elite teams are the 15u club, or the 14u teams (like D1 Minnesota has playing in this division) but either way the teams have talent.
