Prospect Spotlight: Ellyan Alibegic (2019)
Mountain View guard Ellyan Alibegic is just starting to hit his stride as a player, and is hoping a big senior season with the Mavericks will help land him with a college hoops program.
Last season, he started to show what his potential could be, he’s currently ranked 81st in Idaho’s 2019 prospect rankings.
“Being that it was my first year in varsity, I was mainly just a shooter on the team. Whenever I was open beyond the arc, I would try and knock it down for my team,” said Alibegic.
The 6-foot lefty says his role was to not just be a knockdown shooter, but an uplifting leader, too.
“I needed to be a good teammate and help everyone, tell people when they were doing good and be a good motivator,” he said.
This offseason, rather than play 17U AAU ball, he’s elected to just play summer ball with Mountain View.
“We lost some of our big-men from last year, so I’m just working on being more aggressive down low this summer. I was mainly a shooter last year, but I need to switch it up a little bit more,” said Alibegic.
As for recruitment, it’s been slow. He hasn’t seen any come in yet. Alibegic is hoping that with a big senior season, he can get his opportunity to play at the next level.
“I feel like recruitment is (slow) because last season was my first year of varsity and I haven’t made that much of a name for myself yet. But I feel like I’m going to grow and something is going to come up,” he said.
“I do hope something comes up, my parents love watching me play and they want me to play college ball, so I really hope something comes around for me.”
