Recruiting Report: Jalen Speer (2020)
Jalen Speer is a natural leader who is awfully tough to guard throughout games.
The 6’0″, 160-pounder is a 2020 PK Yonge prospect who has no offers but interest from Georgia Southern, Dayton, Tennessee Chattanooga, Rice and Tennessee Tech.
Speer averaged 14.3 PPG as P.K. Yonge finished 18-12 losing in the Class 4A semifinals, 52-48 to Master’s Academy.
“From a team perspective, it was really bumpy and we felt unsure about what type of team we were going to be until the last five games of the season and finding it out that late in the season is really dangerous,” Speer told Prep Hoops. “Overall, I was proud of our team beating the odds and making it to the Final Four.
From an individual’s perspective, I think the whole year I was very productive, which I was expecting from all the work that I put in over the summer. I believe last year is just a glimpse of what is to come from me. I picked up nice awards and accomplishments like 1st team all-area and 2nd team all-state.”
This summer, Speer is running with E1T1 Heat. He started playing with them and he’s looking to continue the success with that program.
He pointed to his biggest strength as his ability to finish at all three levels. Speer says he’s aiming to get better at being more of a point guard and finishing around the rim.
Speer is going to be solid here in due time and right now, he’s doing the things to get better and be a reliable presence for his team. His push in transition is fun to watch and he sets the tone for the rest of his team.
