Another in state super talent has signed on to play for the College of Idaho and it’s of no surprise at this point. The Yotes are continuing their passionate drive to chase after the state’s top players and by landing Rocky Mountain’s Hunter Ranstrom, it appears they have done it again.
Despite a change at head coach as Scott Garson has moved on to Santa Clara, first year head coach Colby Blaine seems to have picked up right where they left off on the recruiting trail. Securing Ranstrom, a First Team All 5A SIC player who helped lead Rocky Mountain to two consecutive state championship is a big move. However, Ranstrom will not immediately suit up for the Yotes this next season as he will serve a two year mission in Mexico first. But, when the skilled all-around talent returns you can rest assure he will be ready to contribute based off his stellar high school career at Rocky.
Ranstrom’s brother Briggs Ranstrom is one of our top ranked 2020 players and is surely one to watch as it can be assumed he is on the radar for the Yotes as well. The elder Ranstrom Hunter was a tremendous leader for his squad and that quality along with his ability to contribute in so many different ways on the court is exactly what the Yotes are looking for at the next level.

Ranstorm joins Mountain View’s Jalen Galloway, Preston’s Derek Wadsworth (another recent state champion), and Centennial’s Kamron Modrow as 2018 signees for the Yotes. All of whom are ranked in our top 30 overall for the state. Truly an impressive list and easily the highest amount of in state recruits than any other school in the country.
Who’s left out of the 2018s?
With Ranstrom leaving the mix, there are still a number of excellent 2018 prospects left that are currently unsigned. For us, Hillcrest’s Derek Marlowe, teammate of Ranstrom’s Tyler O’Donnell, Dietrich’s Slade Dill, Kuna’s Zach Barton, and Timberline’s Zac Zenner are the top five remaining unsigned 2018 in our rankings. Within that group there are players with different skill sets that can really help out a smaller program looking to build depth to it’s 2018 recruiting class.
A few more names to include would be Skyview’s Chris Kielman, Lake City’s James Carlson, Grace’s Paycen Jensen, Kellogg’s Chase Jerome, Skyview’s Jayson Hibbard, and Boise’s Lucas Centeno as even more players who could be solid additions out of the remaining 2018 class.
