Prospect Profile: Dakota Reber (2020 Wilsonville HS/International Elite 16U)
Playing AAU basketball often gives young men the opportunity to expand on their games that they normally wouldn’t have in high school. For Dakota Reber, the opportunity to play with the International Elite program on their 16U team has been worthwhile. The athletic 6-foot-6, 185-pound forward typically plays down low for Wilsonville but in AAU ball, he’s been able to do some different things.
“We played in some good tournaments and I’ve been getting some good looks from colleges,” Reber said. “I’ve played pretty well but I could play better. But I’m playing outside more instead of in the post. I’m able to do some ball-handling and defend players that are quicker than me.”
Reber has impressed observers with his athleticism and versatility this spring and as he mentioned, colleges have shown interest. He notes that he’s gotten calls and texts from Seattle University and UC Irvine since June 15th, the date when schools can directly contact rising juniors.
“It’s pretty cool,” Reber said. “They are telling me to keep working hard and to keep getting stronger.”
It’s very early in the recruiting process for Reber so he’s not even really thinking about what kind of college program he would be looking for. He’s simply enjoying the process and is focused on finishing out June strong with his Wilsonville team and then rejoining International Elite in July.
“I just want to play the best that I can,” Reber said. “That and hopefully get attention from more colleges that I can.”
Reber currently ranks as the #20 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
