Recruiting Report: Mason Zick (2019)
We love the 17u season because it introduces players that some may not know and allows them to show what they can do against other top competitors their age. Mason Zick of Northfield is one of those players. See Mason this week at the GPA!
Zick is a big wing at 6-foot-6 who used his physical gifts to score 14 points a game this year for a 20 win Northfield team that worked their way into the Class AAA top ten. The Raiders won’t move far from that top ten next year either.
“We are returning Blake Christensen and Mitchell Stanchina who were both contributors on the varsity team last year, along with Jackson Schlaak who also played some varsity minutes,” Zick said. “The expectations this year is to get over the road block of sections finals and make it to state since the Northfield Raiders haven’t made it to state for 86 years.”
Eighty-Six Years! That’s quite the goal to be working for. Every time Mason gets to the gym that 86 year streak is in Zick’s mind as he works to improve.
“I’d like to improve my left hand game, and become an even better scorer than last year,” Zick said. “Also being the go to guy on the Northfield Raiders and leading the team in points, rebounds, and assists.”
College basketball programs have been in contact with Zick which makes a lot of sense, he is 6-foot-6 on the wing consistently producing.
“My biggest recruitments have been Augustana, Southwest Minnesota State, and Minnesota-Duluth,” Mason said. “Also many division three colleges like St. John’s, Bethel, Gustavus, and Northwestern.
“I just attended the Augstana basketball camp and I am considering going to the Southwest Minnesota State camp along with visiting Northwestern, Bethel, and Azusa Pacific in Southern California.”
Mason is playing with the fifth ranked WOTN team at 17U and this weekend they will be working to earn the GPA championship in St. Cloud.
“The top moments from our WOTN 17u team have been beating OSA Adidas at the Sanford Pentagon and beating the Minnesota Fury in Council Bluffs, Iowa,” Mason said. “We hope to accomplish finishing the season in the top five rankings in Minnesota and winning the Las Vegas tournament.”
