Grassroots Update: D-1 Elite 16U
D-1 Elite is a new AAU program based north of Seattle and is headed by former Portland Pilot sharpshooter Jared Stohl. The 16U group is a solid group of kids who have been working hard on the AAU circuit this spring trying to make a name for themselves.
Here’s a breakdown of the roster and how they have performed this far:
Luke Dobler (2020 Marysville Pilchuck HS) – Dobler is the top scorer on the team and he actually reminds Stohl a lot of himself back in the day, as a skinny kid who doesn’t look like much but shoots the heck out of it. Dobler, at 6-foot, has unlimited range on his jumpshot and can play both guard positions well. While he’s a great shooter he’s efficient with his offensive game. Some smaller Division I schools have already shown some interest including Eastern Washington and Holy Cross.
Cameron Stordahl (2020 Marysville Pilchuck HS) – Stordahl is an athletic slasher and playmaker who at 6-foot-3, gets to and finishes at the rim. While he can hit open shots, the one dribble pull-up is most effective.
Alex Jensen (2020 Lakewood HS) – Jensen is a heady, pass-first point guard who has good end-to-end speed which helps him be the team’s press breaker. While the 5-foot-11 guard would rather get the assist rather than the bucket, he does possess a solid pull-up jumper.
Wyatt Walker (2020 Burlington Edison HS) – Walker is a versatile stretch four man who at 6-foot-6, excels in pick and pop situations. He has a nice touch on his shot and runs the floor well.
Ethan Jackson (2020 Marysville Pilchuck HS) – Jackson is a bruiser, who Stohl calls the Dennis Rodman of the team. The 6-foot-5 forward fights hard for rebounds and kicks out offensive boards to open shooters.
Charlie Powers (2020 Kamiak HS) – Powers is a dynamic small guard who is quick footed and has the ability to get by people. Offensively he has a nice little floater inside and the team feeds off his energy.
Jackson Reisner (2020 Burlington Edison HS) – Reisner is the team’s knock-down shooter. Whether it’s from a wide-open kickout or coming off a screen, he’s counted on to hit the open J.
Aaron Kalab (2020 Marysville Pilchuck HS) – Every team needs a “hustle guy” and Kalab does that well for D-1 Elite. The 6-foot-1 guard is a hard worker who isn’t afraid to get down and dirty on the defensive end.
Liam Hanenburg (2021 Lynden HS) – Hanenburg is the sole rising sophomore on the team and it’s not just because he’s 6-foot-10. Stohl believes the big man is developing big time and has a ton of potential. He’s got good hands, a soft touch out to 15 feet , and really runs the floor well. The key right now is improving upon his footwork and his overall speed.
D-1 Elite will be spending the month of July playing in tournaments in Bellevue, Salem, and Las Vegas.
