Top Shooters: Portland State Team Camp
Team camp took place on the campus of Portland State University as some of the state’s top 6A squads came and competed in games at the brand new Viking Pavilion at the Stott Center. On hand were some of the top perimeter shooters in Oregon and these are five of the ones that impressed in the games that PrepHoops Oregon was on hand for.
Josh Angle (2019 Lake Oswego HS) – No list of top shooters in Oregon can be made without containing Angle, who is by far the best knockdown shooter in the state. While his three-point shot wasn’t totally on par on Saturday, he compensated by taking the ball to the basket and hitting a few mid-range floaters. And he still showed off his ability to drain threes at any given moment on one fast break by pulling up beyond the arc and knocking it down.
Drayton Caoile (2019 West Linn HS) – Caoile ran the point for West Linn and did a good job setting up teammates, but certainly did a great job getting things going with his own shot. In two games on Saturday he converted 11-for-13 shots from the field including 3-for-4 from three-point range, essentially taking good shots and making them. His driving layup at the buzzer also helped West Linn avoid the upset in their second game, 57-55.
Brock Henry (2019 Southridge HS) – Henry is coming off an injury that kept him out of action in May but it hasn’t affected his shot any. He was on fire from three in both of Southridge’s games on Saturday, knocking down 5-for-8 from beyond the arc in their opening game loss to West Linn. Henry didn’t just launch threes either as he also capably took the ball t the basket and one of his buckets in the second game was a nice looking dunk off an alley-oop pass.
Bryson Crockett (2020 West Linn HS) – The lefty has been working on his perimter shooting this off-season and it showed on Saturday. Crockett spotted up for threes, either on the wing or on the baseline, and knocked down 7-for-14 in the three games we watched. He wasn’t just a one-trick pony on offense either as he also was able to score off drives, finishing well especially in transition, and he ended up as one of the top scorers from the weekend.
Keshav Anand (2022 Westview HS) – Westview brought a team full of inexperienced players but still came away with a 2-2 record and Anand was a big reason why. The 6-foot-2 rising freshman showed a very nice lefty shooting touch from the perimeter and knocked down open shots all weekend. In the team’s last game against Jefferson, he led the way with 13 points, knocking down 2-for-3 from three-point range. Anand will definitely be one to watch in Metro League play this winter.
