Prospect Profile: Jamison Guerra (2020 Sherwood HS/International Elite 16U)
Jamison Guerra is enjoying the process. The heady 5-foot-10, 160-pound point guard from Sherwood is getting the chance to travel around the country with his International Elite 16U squad, playing in tournaments against teams from the West Coast and beyond. And as he plays well, Guerra is finding that others are paying attention to his skills.
“So far it’s been a great experience,” Guerra said. “We’ve been playing against competition in different areas and it’s helped me improve with my game. I’ve been shooting the ball well and I’ve been getting my teammates involved. I’m working on my playmaking and things like when to shoot or pass, when to score.”
Guerra has been a calming force for his International Elite squad at the point. When you watch him play, it’s clear that he’s a pure point guard who is looking at what the best options are on each possession. He takes good care of the ball and isn’t going to force something if it’s not there. And when open, he’ll hit the open shot with regularity.
Since the team has been playing in some high profile tournaments in Seattle and Washington, he’s gotten a chance to play in front of some college coaches. Guerra noted that he’s gotten some early interest from Portland, George Fox, and Multnomah and he’s happy about getting some looks as his goal is play in college.
“Basically what the right fit is,” Guerra said. “I feel it’s a good opportunity to play at any level for any college that’s interested in me. It’s a unique opportunity to play college basketball as not every high school athlete gets that chance. So I’m open to anything.”
Guerra will get a chance to showcase his skills some more this July as International Elite will be playing in tournaments in Kansas and California. “I want to continue to get my name out there,” Guerra said. “This is a very important time for me, so I want to continue to keep up my level of play.”
Guerra currently ranks as the #24 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
