Vijay Blackmon
6’2 – SG – 2016
Blackmon was one of many Giants that struggled on this night. He didn’t hit a field goal in the first half and that really stalled the Marion offense. He was solid from the free throw line to give some offense. His rebounding was the best part of his game tonight. He’s got a good idea of where to be in position to get it and hurry up into transition. He’s not a point guard, he’ll have to learn to get more looks on offense against higher end teams. Still has the upside to be a potential DI prospect but he needs a really good senior season. – 8 points, 6 rebounds
Reggie Jones
6’4 – SF – 2016
Jones looked like the better version of himself tonight but not the best. He had to play with the ball in his hand quite a bit and that isn’t a great thing for him. Marion lacked a point guard and it really put Blackmon and Jones in tough spots especially when dealing with Pike’s pressure. He shot the ball pretty well in this game but didn’t have enough to get Marion back in it. – 19 points, 4 rebounds
Tim Leavell
6’1 – SG – 2017
Leavell is a nice prospect to watch for some non-DI programs here in the next year. Solid combo guard who can handle it pretty well, just not against a really tough press like what Pike puts out there. He’s really good as a shooter. He didn’t do well tonight from three but that is what he has excelled at in the past. He looks better off the dribble drive and getting baseline to score. – 12 points, 4 rebounds
Indianapolis Pike:
Justin Thomas
6’0 – PG – 2016
Thomas has been really good all year so far. The 6’0 guard is still a little underrated but schools are starting to offer him at the low-major level. He’s plenty capable of being a solid player at that level. He’s finishing stronger in transition and with Pike’s press he is getting a lot of easy opportunities. His numbers are great so far and his shooting has seemed to improve. He’s a little more efficient nowadays. – 31 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists
Justin Roberts
5’11 – PG – 2017
Roberts and Thomas work so well together in Pike’s press. Roberts is the guy that usually starts to create the turnover and more often Thomas is the beneficiary of that. Justin is probably a better shooter right now but he has to improve his percentage from three. If he can do that and keep up this run that Pike is on it will be a big year in his development. Playing point guard isn’t an issue but he likes to be a guy that scores the ball. He’ll need to be a better shooter for that but making improvements towards it. – 13 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists
Derek Hawthorne
6’2 – SG – 2016
Hawthorne had a big game. He showed this ability this summer but haven’t seen it a ton on Pike because of the depth of talent. He had a smaller version of that big game tonight. He was really efficient scoring the ball tonight. Derek is a high level athlete although he doesn’t always show it. It allows him to make some really tough plays in the area finishing in traffic. Tough guard with a great body. Could be a steal at DII school. – 17 points, 6 rebounds
