Westover Team Camp: What We Learned
- 71st HS has a nice group of talent: With the return of a nice amount of seniors and the rumors that Xavier Howard is back on his way in, the Falcons have a chance to be very good if they stay locked in. They would go on to win the Westover Team Camp Championship after defeating Pine Forest in the Semis and New Life in the Championship.
- Westover has a chance to have another good season: They return a ton of talent from last year’s team and although they are still working some things out, they will have it all together by time the season starts. They have guard play, size and most importantly the desire to play the intense defense that they have been known for over the years.
- New Life Christian has proven that they are legit: After winning conference, state and a national championship in their division, the Monarchs set out to prove themselves in the County. They went three days and only lost one game which came to Westover HS and would advance all the way to the Championship game before coming up short to 71st HS.
- Pine Forest will make some noise this season: The Trojans don’t have a high amount of big name players but they do have youngsters that know how to play in their system and that want to do whatever it takes to win games. Throughout the times that we got the chance to see them play, they did a very nice job of competition and playing unselfish basketball.
- Jack Britt HS Senior Forward Calvin Washington has a chance to have a big time season: Washington has already made a verbal commitment to Mount Olive (D2) and if he continues to progress, he will be a steal for their program. At this point he has games where he is absolutely unstoppable and then other games where he is still solid but not as dominant. Consistently dominating games is the next step for him, once he does that then not only will he be a force but the Jack Britt Bucks will be that much more successful.
