Prospect Spotlight: Antonio Turner (2019)
Recently at the Centennial Classic Team Camp in Ankeny, Antonio Turner was one of the best guards in the gym.
We knew the 5-foot-9 Iowa City High rising senior could play, he’s been one of PHIA’s top 100-ranked 2019’s for two years now. But he showed a great deal of improvement that weekend, proving he’d added to his existing ball-handling and creating abilities.
Turner was striking just the right balance of flare and production while helping lead City High a fourth-place finish out of eight high-level teams at that Centennial Classic.
And he’s continuing to hone his skill-set as he heads into the summer before his senior season.
“Right now, I can shoot and get to the rim,” said Turner. “I need to keep working on my defense a lot, also my jump shot.”
As a junior at City High, Turner averaged a team-best 13.7 points per game. He’s looking to be a prolific scorer and a team leader next winter.
“I feel like I had a good junior year, but I felt like I could of done better,” he said. “Senior year, I want to improve my scoring and my jumper, and leading my team to more wins.”
This summer, he’s hoping that he can start to see some recruitment come his way. As of now, Turner says he’s heard nothing from college coaches — rendering him an under-the-radar prospect.
“I’m looking forward to getting some colleges looking at me and showing my skills,” said Turner. “My goal this summer is to pick up an offer, and talk to more college coaches.”
