Recruiting Report: Isaac Fink (2019)
When Mr. Basketball discussions are being had next winter Isaac Fink will be involved in those discussions as the young man has had a fantastic high school career, with one season left to go.
As a junior Fink had his team at number one in the state in Class A for two different stints. Isaac averaged 26.6 points and 10.2 rebounds a game (averaged a double-double!) plus dished out 5.8 assists with 2.8 steals per game. For his career Fink has registered 2,376 career points which is just outside of the top 30 of all time. If Fink finishes injury free this season he will be a definite to finish in the top ten of all time (likely top 6 or 7).
Springfield has high expectations for Isaac’s final season.
“We lost a couple key guys but we return great players as well,” Fink said. “I’ve said this every year, but I do believe we have the chance of winning a State Title. It starts right now in the summer getting better as a team. Some new young kids are coming up that have a lot of talent that just need time. Our team has the potential to win a State Title.”
Fink is doing his part to reach that goal as he’s playing with the Minnesota Comets, playing with his high school in several events, and working out on his own.
“After last season’s ending with a last second shot, this upcoming season means there are no “wait for next year”. My goal this off-season is to have 500-800 makes a day, and continue improving on my low post game.”
Fink of course is also set to play four more events with the Minnesota Comets (GPA, NY2LA event in Milwaukee, locally at the D1 Summer Classic, and out in Las Vegas). Injuries have hurt the Comets but they have four events coming to accomplish their goals.
“This AAU season has been amazing so far with the Comets,” Fink explained. “The guys and coaches are great and make the game fun. Although our record isn’t where we want it to be, this July we will prove a lot of people wrong. With everyone back from injury and illness we feel we are a top four team in the State.
“Our goal is to win each game. That may be challenging with great competition coming up, but I do believe we have the talent to. Starting with GPA’s hopefully we can get all the guys there and start getting in the groove again”
Then there is the college decision. Isaac is a top 10-12 player prospect with the offers to prove it. Fink’s most recent offer came from Southwest Minnesota State yesterday.
“I have received offers from Southwest Minnesota State, Augustana for baseball and basketball, University of Sioux Falls, St. Cloud State, Minnesota-Duluth, and Moorhead State.” Fink listed. “After the Dallas NY2LA tournament I have received calls from Denver, Elon, NDSU, Cornell, Wofford, UMass Lowell, and Furman.”
