DeMar DeRozan Tournament: Biggest Revelations
DeMar DeRozan Tournament: Biggest Revelations
COMPTON, CA—St John Bosco continued it’s onslaught in the DeMar DeRozan tournament as they coasted to victory with little resistance over a talented Compton High School squad. The tournament had a number of talented squads including Bishop Montgomery, Long Beach Poly and St. Anthony of Long Beach. At the end of the day it would be Bosco’s depth that would be the difference in claiming the championship.
Koby Malone (Compton)
2020, WF, 6-foot-4, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: The willowy Malone has that quintessential frame with long arms and he’s a budding athlete. He can slash his way to the rim or knock in the 3-point shot. His ball skills need work, but he’s an intriguing prospect.
Josh Camper (St. John Bosco)
2020, PG, 5-foot-10, 155 pounds
Joel’s Take: Camper has always shown glimpses of his overall game, but it’s been inconsistent. At this tournament, however, Camper was spot-on in terms of shooting and running a team. He can come off a pin-down screen and convert his shot or penetrate and kick to an open shooter.
Chigozie Achara (Alemany)
2019, PF, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds
Joel’s Take: Achara is raw, but he’s productive. He blocks shots, rebounds in traffic, and can convert baskets off of drop-off passes. Improving his fundamentals (playing wide and with bent knees) as well as developing a go-to move will improve his stock.
Bradley Ezewiro (Long Beach/St. Anthony)
2020, PF, 6-foot-8, 235 pounds
St. Anthony F/C Bradley Ezewiro has a huge frame and bounce, but he needs to work on playing on balance and developing a go-to move.Joel’s Take: The size (strong frame) and the bounce are there, however, the fundamentals (post/setting screens, etc.) and skill need polishing. Ezewiro can drop step and finish and his passing is quite good out of the post, but he needs to work on his balance (playing wide) and develop a go-to move.
Harrison Garner (Maranatha)
2019, C, 6-foot-7, 235 pounds
Joel’s Take: Garner is a blue-collar post player who exhibits a nice soft touch on the perimeter. He knocked in some baseline jump shots. He’s a rim-level player, but he pivots well and can finish with either hand.
