UNCP Team Camp: What We Learned
- Lumberton HS has a chance to be a good squad this year with the mixture of youth coming up as well as the returning talent that will be back. During this camp they didn’t have 2 of their starters but they still performed well with some nice performances from all their role players that have moved up from JV as well as 2020 Guard Jordan McNeill.
- Grays Creek is a team on the rise, the combo of nice guard play as well as some solid wings and forwards have helped them play well so far this summer. This is a group that seems like they enjoy playing together and they don’t have much of a drop off when they go to their bench.
- St. Pauls was the Cinderella team of the event, they knocked off a few teams that people expected them to lose to and showed that they can play with just about anybody. The youth that they have on their squad makes them a very interesting team to watch.
- Fairmont HS is one of the top defensive teams in the area on a consistent basis for a reason, they get after it on the defensive end of the floor. They constantly apply pressure to their opponent causing all type of turnovers and speeding the game up to the way they like to play.
- 71st will be good if they get the needed production from Forwards Brion McLaurin and Jaden Scriven as well as good Guard play from Demauriea Nickleson. When these three are playing at the level that we expect, then they make for a very nice trio for the Falcons.
- Cary HS Guard Jett Fortuny is legit! He has picked up some interest from D1 and D2 programs and we saw why when we watched him during this event. The ability to score the ball at a high rate while playing within the flow of the offense was something that caught our attention almost instantly, he doesn’t force plays and has a nice overall IQ for the game.
