KAMO Shootout: Stock Risers (2020)
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Hosted by Shawnee Mission East, the annual KaMo Shootout has earned a reputation as one of the midwest’s premier summer events for high school teams.
This event tipped off on Friday and wrapped up on Sunday with championship brackets being played. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top performers on Saturday.
Carlos Esquibel, G, 2020, Topeka
Esquibel is a talented point guard who can handle himself in heavy traffic. He has a bounce to his step that is difficult to stay with and can find openings on the floor that few can find. Opponents often struggle to get a read on him. He likes to work the ball inside and pass out or slip the ball to a teammate who is looking for a dunk or easy layups.
2-Shawn Hendershot, 6’3, G, 2020, Blue Valley North (Kan.)
Hendershot is a hard-working guard who can handle the ball, rebound and defend. He can stay with opponents and make them use their weak hand. On offense he moves well, setting screens and popping behind the 3-point line in search of an open look. He’s also capable of playing the point and setting up an offense.
20 — Mitch Munsen, 6’1, G, 2020, Manhattan (Kan.)
A hard worker who really competes and gets after it, Munsen got on the floor, hustled and showed the ability to shoot it and score it. Munsen can handle the ball in the backcourt and is comfortable attacking the basket off the bounce and shows the ability to knock down outside shots consistently.
5 — Raeshon Riddick, 6’4, G, 2020, Manhattan (Kan.)
A strong, physical guard, Riddick is terrific in transition and finishes well around the basket. He can knock down an open 3, but appears more comfortable taking the ball the cup and forcing the issue at the offensive end.
