Recruiting Report: Emad Elniel (2019)
Independence High School in Glendale, Arizona had a lot of success this past season despite missing the state tournament. Much of that success can be directly credited to their talented wing Emad Elniel. Elniel, a 6’5 SF 2019 who plays with AZ Hype, is without a doubt one of the most intriguing prospects in the class of 2019.
He is long, athletic, and strong. In addition to looking the part of a college basketball player, he has the skill to be successful as well. He is a knock down shooter from deep. Moreover, he finishes well around the rim and can play multiple positions. His play will be imperative to the success that Independence has this next season.
Emad Elniel: College Interest
Despite his skill set and potential, Elniel does not have any offers at this time. With that said, he has received interest from “Montana State, NAU, Kentucky State, UC San Diego, and UCCS”. Further, accordingly to Elniel, a number of local JUCOs have expressed interest in him as well. As of recent, he mentioned that Utah State and Abilene Christian have reached out as well.
Elniel is an intriguing prospect for a number of reasons. First of all, he has the build to be a big time college basketball player. When he walks into the gym, he passes the eye test immediately. He has broad and strong shoulders as well as long arms. Further he stands at 6’5.
In addition to looking the part, he has the grades to get the job done as well. According to his club coach, he has a 3.9 GPA and scored a 27 on his ACT. It is extremely rare to find a prospect with his upside who also gets the job done in the classroom.
Due to his high academic level, he is looking for “a school that offers a good academic and basketball program.” He is adamant that “education is first” and that is top priority is to find a school that offers “a good academic program that help me in the future.” At this point, he is looking to major in Business and Marketing. He would like to open his own business after college.
In addition to academics, he wants to find “a coach who would believe in me when it comes to being a contribution to the program.” He believes that he brings whichever program he goes to “a player who would work endlessly not only on the court, but also in the classroom.” His work ethic mixed with his skill set is quite intriguing.
Emad Elniel: Projection
While Elniel has the physical capabilities to play at the next level and has a lot of skill, he would most likely need to go the JUCO route in order to play at the NCAA Division-I level. Due to his value on education, it is quite possible that he could end up at an NCAA Division-II/III or a NAIA school.
In order to take his game to the next level, he needs to improve his speed and quickness. Further, he allows to many possessions to go by in which he doesn’t make an impact offensively. He has a lot of skill and a high ceiling. However, he can be passive in moments where he needs to take over the game.
With that said, he is humble and a good teammate. He plays hard on every possession and cares about winning. His upside is through the roof and should continue to draw interest from colleges.
