Prospect Spotlight: Dayton Magana (2020)
Although he’s not big in stature, Central Catholic’s 5-foot-6 point guard Dayton Magana’s impact is certainly big-time impactful on the hardwood.
The floor general prides himself on his ability to distribute the ball and to play the point guard position the way it’s meant to be played. He broke down his playing style during a recent phone interview with Prep Hoops Northern California.
“My strengths are being a true floor general and a true point guard, like seeing the floor very well and setting up open shots,” he said.” I can score the ball and get myself involved that way, and I feel like I’m a pretty good defender as well.”
At Central Catholic last season, the sophomore point guard was good. He helped lead his team to one game away from the state tounrey.
“My role was to be a true point guard and get the offense moving and pretty much just be the leader on the floor,” said Magana, who says he averaged 12 points and five assists per game.
“Going into this my junior year, my leadership role will increase, and I’ll be more in the spotlight this year.”
Ahead of his junior season with the Raiders, Magana will spend his summer with Team Rampage 17U.
“They’ve been really helping me get a chance to play the best competition out there. And they’re really helping me develop as a guard and as a player, and since I started playing with them I feel like the game has become easier for me,” said Magana.
“In July, I’m looking forward to playing against some more top teams, and getting my name out there on some recruiting radars. Hopefully if I get my name out there and play well, I can make that happen.”
