Prospect Spotlight: Jaivion Garrett (2019)
A relative newcomer to Washington, 6-foot-6 small forward Jaivion Garrett is a guy that could establish himself as one of the state’s very best players by as soon as this summer.
He was in South Carolina for his sophomore season, then moved with his family to Seattle for his junior season, to Franklin. He’ll spend his senior season at Rainier Beach.
“I made the switch because I thought Seattle was a better for exposure. South Carolina is more of a football state and a lot of the basketball players get overlooked,” said Garrett.
“I switched to Rainier Beach because of the tradition and the bigger spotlight. I’ve been playing with them in team camps (this spring) and everything has been clicking.”
A big and versatile threat, Garrett is a guy that can do a little bit of everything out on the floor. He takes a lot of pride in that.
“I’m good at flashing to the mid-range area and I can shoot the 3,” he said. “I can play more than one position and pretty much do everything for my team.”
This spring, he’s been playing with the adidas Gauntlet’s Team Bradley. Garrett is looking forward to a big summer ahead — especially recruitment-wise.
“This spring has been going good. I have Bucknell calling, Montana State, U Dub and schools like that. I’ve been playing a lot in the backcourt, working on my handle and learning how to play different positions,” said Garrett.
He mentioned that Montana State seems like the first school that might offer. And he also said he’s heard from from Arizona State. There’s a big summer ahead for him to rack up some more interest, and hopefully some offers.
“I’m hoping to get better as a player and as a person, and just show what I got,” said Garrett. “And hopefully I can get some high major D1 offers.
