Prospect Spotlight: Tre Clark (2019)
Newton High School has a long history of athletic guards from Isaiah Miller (UNC Greensboro) to Ashton Hagans (Kentucky), and now Tre Clark. Clark played a limited role last year but looks to change that heading into his senior season. Since Ashton Hagans is leaving Newton early for Kentucky, Clark will have the ball in his hands and will lead the charge at the point guard position. He says, “My role last year was whatever Coach needed me to do, I usually guarded the best player to force key turnovers and steals. Now that Ashton is leaving I would be the floor general and playmaker for my teammates.”
Clark is off to good start this AAU season of showcasing his playmaking abilities. The rising senior plays for Team EAT and is currently averaging an impressive 22 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals per game. Simply, Clark can do just a little bit of everything at the guard spot. At the Nike Memorial Day Classic Tournament, he played very well against Jackson Tigers EYBL. In the game, Clark finished well at the rim and created easy opportunities for his teammates. He also showed flashes of his fearlessness in the open court, similar to that of Collin Sexton when he played on the AAU circuit.
He hopes to carry this early momentum for the rest of the summer. In June, Newton will be playing team camp at UGA, Mercer, and Clayton State. Last week at Georgia College’s team camp, Clark led Newton in its first win with a double-double of 11 points and 10 assists. In July, Clark will be playing with Team EAT at the Phenom Hoops Showcases in North and South Carolina. Heading into the July live period, he claims Campbell, Wofford, and Coastal Carolina have all shown interest.
“I want this senior year to be the best of my high school career,” he says. “I would like to lead my team back to the Final Four and move forward to a state championship. I know I will be able to show my true talent that will attract colleges because this is what I was born to do!” Look out for Tre Clark to showcase his true talent and have a breakout season next year for Newton.
