Recruiting Report: Austin Bennett (2019)
Austin Bennett is hungry for more offers and hopes that a new school is going to provide a platform for more exposure. Bennett has an offer from an NAIA powerhouse but is hearing from schools at all different levels. “I have an offer from Georgetown college but I have several schools recruiting me such as Asbury university, University of Pikeville, Tennessee Wesleyan and East Carolina.” What will the school who gets Bennett be adding to their roster? Austin described his game, “I play really fast and have a nice handle, I’m a deep 3 point shooter but I love to get it the rim and finish crafty, I need to improve my opposite hand.”
Bennett has played at Buckhorn for the past three seasons but his senior year is going to be at Hazard High School. Austin was pleased with his performance at Buckhorn last season. “I was happy with my high school season as I averaged 17.8 ppg, 10.1 RPG and 2.1 STL’s, I wasn’t happy with the end of the season because we got beat out first round of district.” Bennett previously played at Rupp Arena when Buckhorn made the trip to the Sweet Sixteena and hopes for Hazard to get back there this year, “My goals for this high school season at Hazard high school are to win the district championship and win the region and play at Rupp arena again.”
Before he can make that happen, Bennett is playing his final year of AAU with Pride Athletics in the Adidas Silver Gauntlet. Playing for Pride has brought Austin a renewed intensity on defense and he hopes for that to carry over to his high school season. Coming into his senior year, Austin Bennett is hunting scholarship offers and regional titles heading into the 2018-2019 season. If he can carry his new team to Rupp Arena, he’s likely to see more scholarships come his way.
