Mizzou Team Camp (Class of 2019 Standouts)
Prep Hoops Missouri was in Columbia, MO on Tuesday to take in the action at the Mizzou Team Camp. Here is a look at the top Class of 2019 players at the camp.
T.J. Hargrove 6’6″ East St. Louis (IL)
The athletic combo forward is one of the top 2019 recruiting targets for Mizzou. He is explosive and can get what he wants offensively from 15 feet and in. He is a solid ball handler and plays excellent in the transition game. He was at his best when he was attacking the offensive boards. In a game against CBC, T.J. dominated the glass with at least a half a dozen put backs in the second half.
Josh Wallace 6’6″ CBC
A bullish combo forward who continued his strong play with his activity and high motor. He is very good when catching the ball at the high post and making a strong power drive to the hoop, which resulted in either a basket or a a three-point play. He has also developed a nice mid-range jumper off the bounce. He was one of the top rebounders at the camp.
Nick Zeil 6’8″ Park Hill
A physical post player who is a strong scoring threat and rebounder around the basket. He spent a lot of time on the perimeter where he showcased a nice 3-point stroke, which has been a big addition to his game since the spring. He hit four 3-pointers in a game against Marshall. He is also a solid rebounder and excellent screen setter who does all of the little things to help his team.
Ari Jackson 6’4″ CBC
A smooth, big bodied wing player who has the ability to score and create matchup problems. He makes good use of the jab step to create space or set up his defender for a strong move. He is also an excellent 3-point shooter who can knock down jumpers off the catch or coming off screens. He has been very good offensively during the past two teams camps at UMSL and Mizzou.
Beau Washer 6’2″ Father Tolton
A crafty wing player with an old school feel to his game who just gets it done. He has good footwork and uses head and shoulder fakes to get himself to the basket and get buckets in a variety of ways. He can also knock down open 3-pointers. He seems to be always around the ball.
Garrett Stephens 6’1″ Plattsburg
It was my first time taking a look at this small school standout from Northwest Missouri. Was very impressed with his overall skill set and how he was able to impact his team in a variety of ways. He is strong and can handle the ball through contact. He finished well on drives and consistently made plays for his teammates.
Jaylen Varner 6’2″ Marshall
The thick shooting guard is a versatile talent who can handle the ball, score and play solid defense. With his physical strength, he can bully his way to the basket, plus he can knock down a 3-pointer off the dribble. On defense, he used his quick hands to pick a few pockets of more than a few opposing ball handlers to convert for easy layups.
