Prospect Watch: Charlie Cox (2019)
Six-foot-4 wing Charlie Cox out of Dakota Valley High School earned himself All League recognition as a junior and as we said days before, entering his senior year Charlie is Next Up!
Dakota Valley battled their way to the state tournament this past winter putting together a 17-8 season and creating a lot of memories for their community.
“Our high-school season was a success,” Charlie explained. “We were expected to finish in the lower half of a difficult DAK-12. We knew we were under estimated and went to state for the third straight year and finished sixth.
“As a player I went through my first year as a starter and played more inside than I had previously as I grew to 6-foot-4.”
On a balanced roster Cox averaged 11.2 points per game with six rebounds a contest. Now Charlie has taken his hard working game to the Pentagon Schoolers.
“Our team is 12-10 and have lost some close games against great competition,” Charlie said. “It’s been a really fun experience playing the Schoolers. It is a privilege to play with them. My coaches and teammates are awesome.
“We all want to win as many games as we can, but our main goal is to play better as a team and to improve individually against top competition.”
Cox will spent three more weekends playing with the Schoolers this summer and the rest of the time getting ready for a senior year with big goals.
“I am focused on helping our DV team jell after losing six seniors. Being a leader is most important. I would like to continue to get stronger and to improve my pull-up and my three-pointer.”
