Prospect Update: Kenny Quinn (2019)
Since his freshman season at Hoover, Kenny Quinn has been known as a lockdown defender; a bulldog who doesn’t back down from anyone of any size on the defensive end.
Quinn is still that — his great lateral movement and small, but strong frame make him impenetrable for a lot of less experienced offensive players — but, now, his offensive talents are starting to catch up.
“I’ve been working on my outside shot, getting that more consistent, also my mid-range, finishing through contact more and just being more aggressive learning how to read defenses,” said Quinn. “I think I’ve improved on my decision making, my 3-ball and floaters.”
Quinn will still be the defensive-stopper on a Hoover team that’s renowned as one of the state’s premier defensive programs. Next season, though, look for him to improve upon the 4.6 points per game he averaged as a junior.
“My role for next season won’t change a lot, but I will have to help pick up on some stuff that we lost from last year, like definitely scoring more and taking way more shots, and rebounding because we’re small, ” said Quinn.
The 5-foot-9 point guard will continue and hone his offensive skill-set this summer while playing the second half of his 17U season with Beyond Ball 17U.
“This spring has been fun, we’ve won a lot of games and competed against, and beaten top-ranked teams. We play really well together, I can’t wait to see what July brings because we’re all hungry,” said Quinn.
“My plans for the summer are to just keep working and have a big July, show coaches what I can do, and maybe pick up an offer or heavy interest.”
Recruitment-wise, Quinn is patiently waiting for his first offer to come in. Right now, it’s just interest.
“I haven’t been offered yet, but I’ve heard from a few schools like NDSU, UMKC, and Grandview. My AAU coaches have told me more schools have been asking about me, but they haven’t told me which ones yet. They just tell me to keep working,” said Quinn.
“My recruitment goals are to pick up some offers, I think I can play at the highest level, and that’s what I’m working for. I’m not in any rush, though, I know my time is coming.”
