Recruiting Report: Khari Broadway (2019)
Park Center guard Khari Broadway is one of the several key pieces of the Pirates attack returning for a season that PC fans have been building towards. NHR spoke with Khari today.
Broadway averaged 11.8 points per game and was one of five Park Center players averaging in double figures in mid February before not playing in the final seven games.
Of those five Pirates scoring in double figures, three are back: Broadway, Dain Dainja, and Tommy Chatman. Add in Emmanuel Tamba who was the 6th man much of the year before starting at the end of the season, and JV standouts Josh Brown, David Ijadimbola, Amir Whitlock, and DT Frierson and there is a ton of talent back at PC.
“I believe everyone is coming back next season and our expectations next year is for one, to be the best team we can be and two, is to win state that’s really what’s on our mind ,” Khari said.
To prepare for a big year the Pirates are playing a lot of off-season basketball together. Tamba, Broadway, and Chatman were all in the TC Pirates squad that played in the NHR state event two weekends back. Frierson, Whitlock, and Ijadimbola are all playing together on the Gain Elite 16s squad that has won a lot of games.
“My top moments in 17U are just playing my last AAU session with guys that are fun to be around and fun to play with and we all have the same competitive spirit so that makes it even better,” Khari explained.
“We all want to get scholarships and give the best impressions on coaches as much as we can but we have to be patient and just continue to have fun and play hard.”
Broadway has played a lot of games in a Park Center uniform but now has just the one year left. The state tournament has been to state once in the last 21 seasons and that’s something these kids are working to change. Khari is taking it upon himself to mature in several ways for this final year.
“I’m working really hard to be more of a vocal and positive leader and on keeping my composure when things aren’t going right at times,” Broadway. “I feel like I’m getting better and better each day and I’m proud of myself for that.”
As he should be.
With maturation comes getting ready for college. Broadway has schools in contact and he will soon be at a camp in Colorado.
“I’ve talked to Denver, Miami of Ohio has been sending me letters as well, and I’ve talked with Nebraska-Omaha and St. Cloud State,” Khari stated. “As of right now I don’t have any visits scheduled but I do plan on going to the Denver camp in a few weeks.”
