Prospect Intro: Christian Harper (2019)
Oldham County is only 3 months removed from a Final 4 run at Rupp Arena but Christian Harper has already set his sights on a repeat performance and a return to the Sweet 16. Harper is already establishing himself as a leader for the Colonels as they look to replace 5 seniors. As the lone returning starter, Harper is going to be counted on to increase his production on the court and provide a veteran presence both on and off the floor.
Christian Harper’s reputation is that of a defensive presence with the size and speed to guard most any player on the floor. Harper is a good athlete who is more than capable of finishing above the rim and guarding 1 through 5 on the defensive end. Harper is working to improve his weaknesses this summer, “I’m working to improve my ballhandling and get a more consistent jump shot.” Last season Christian was the lone Junior starter for the Colonels. He averaged nearly 7 points and 4 rebounds per game without ever having a play called for him. He shot just shy of 60% from the field and will look to improve his offensive output this season.
Harper is not playing AAU this summer but he is working to improve his game through skill work and summer ball with Oldham County. His goals for his senior year are to continue playing with aggression and high energy level. He told me, ” With 5 seniors leaving and as the only returning starter, my goal is lead the team in points and rebounds and make another run to Rupp Arena.” Christian is a versatile defender who is primed to make a big leap this season. If he can make strides in his offensive game and provide the leadership the young Colonels will need, Oldham County could very well find themselves cutting down the 8th region nets this season and getting back to Rupp Arena in March.
