Crestwood Scrimmages
Prep Hoops dropped in the Crestwood HS (Dalzell) scrimmages this weekend. The event featured just 3 teams in Crestwood, Lake City HS and Lee Central HS. The host Crestwood HS and Lee Central HS look to be in a rebuilding mode for this coming season while Lake City HS has a few key pieces back from last seasons team.
Crestwood HS Knights were led by Nazir Andino (2019) on the floor Saturday. Andino a shooting guard had a very up and down season last year for the Knights after transferring over from nearby Laurence Manning Academy. Andino needs to more consistent with his perimeter shooting and effort at times on the floor. Monday afternoon Prep Hoops was informed Andino has transferred and will play at Lakewood HS in Sumter this season.
Kwaleek Jones (2019) was not in attendance for the Knights for this past weekend.
Lee Central HS out of Bishopville had a great season last year but did lose 11 kids to graduation. DaVeon Thomas (2021) has been handed the keys to the program for the Stallions. Thomas a jet quick point guard saw significant minutes last season for the Stallions. Thomas is a very bright spot for the Stallions with a new team this year.
Travon Pearson (2022) 7’2 was not in attendance this weekend. Pearson a promising 9th grader as yet to play a game on the varsity level.
The Lake City HS Panthers looked like the best team here today despite a key player in Hilshon Bailey. Malik Hailey (2020), Justin Johnson (2020) and EJ McClam (2021) all stood out on Saturday for the Panthers.
Hailey a point guard scored all of his points at the rim, if it was by attacking or leaking out in transition. Hailey passed up several times on shooting the ball from the perimeter. Hailey excels on the football field as a wide receiver / free safety also for the Panthers.
Johnson 6’5 (240) worked from block to block in the post and played his back to the basket. The Panthers traditionally have never had any kind of size in the post.
McClam a slender-sleek left-handed guard likes to slash to the basket. McClam was a bit passive to shoot the ball on the perimeter today for the Panthers.
